After reading the Sermon On The Mount from my Life Application Bible I found two important teachings that stood out to me the most. I picked these two teachings because I feel like it is what I think most people deal with on a daily basis. Maybe not all but I think these two teachings tie into other teachings really well.
The first teaching that is most important to me comes from Matthew 5:43-44, which says, 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. To me this is important because we are constantly faced with people who sin against us and that are evil towards one another. Jesus says not to retaliate and take things into our own hand so all we can do is pray for them.
For our culture “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” is important because too many people who have been hurt seek vengeance. This shows in our culture because of the crimes that are committed today, such as a bullied child acting out and causing a school shooting. That is just an example but it does happen. Our culture should overcome evil with good and set an example of His word.
This teaching is important to me because being a parent I am partially responsible for the future generation. I have to set an example now for others to see. Being a mother I have to set the example and teach God’s word to my son and raise him to be a child of God. If I teach him to continue to do good and not to act out of sin because someone has done wrong to him it will reflect and teach other kids to do the same.
The second teaching that is important to me is “Do Not Judge”. In Matthew 7:1-2 he says “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” This is important to me because people are very hypocritical these days and judge others, knowing that only God can judge...
