Senator Barack Obama’s Acceptance Speech Democratic National Convention My reaction to Barack Obama’s acceptance speech was captivating. I was especially impressed with the manner in which he humbly accepted the nomination for presidency of the United States, “…with profound gratitude and great humility, I accept your nomination for presidency of the United States.” In addition, I was impressed with the manner in which Obama respectfully acknowledged Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. “Let me express my thanks to the historic slate of candidates who accompanied me on this journey, and especially the one who traveled the farthest, a champion for working Americans and an inspiration to my daughters and to yours, Hillary Rodham Clinton.” The speech, a linear model of communication, was well-written, organized, and professionally presented. Obama’s speech was transmitted via mass communication to address all Americans. Although Obama received positive feedback throughout, he recognized the importance of redundancy when speaking. Redundancy was necessary to avoid miscommunication among the cultural and linguistic barriers. At times, Obama waited for silence before speaking because of the entropy in communication. As a Democrat, I was deeply moved by the speech. Obama’s trustworthiness, expertise, and concern for America are evident and he is a dynamic speaker. Obama’s speech positively embraced the blue collar and professional workers as one American family. Moreover, he acknowledged that hard work and sacrifice are products of a successful dream. In my opinion, it is astounding that a presidential nominee is humble enough to encourage others to pursue personal dreams. “It is that promise that’s always set this country apart, that through hard work and sacrifice each of us can pursue our individual dreams, but still come together as one American family.” Obama
