Self Pride The most successful people in life need self pride in order to succeed and excel at what they are doing. Self pride, a trait which is built through accomplishments, is something I possess because of the successes that I have attained in life. Acquiring my black belt in karate, getting my first job, and bringing up my grades, have all contributed to build myself pride. Becoming a black belt was no simple task. I had to overcome many challenges and face personal obstacles. The first thing I had to overcome was the feeling of not wanting to attend karate class. I felt intimidated that I did not know anyone at the karate school and feared that I might embarrass myself. Once I overcame that obstacle, I then had to deal with the great pressure of being one of the more advanced students in the class. This was a great deal for me because a lot of the students that were underneath me, looked up to me as their role model even though I was still learning to be a great karate student myself. Once I had overcome these obstacles I was ready for my black belt and the duties that came along with it. When I received my black belt I had an immense amount of self pride because I proved to myself that I had the strength to overcome obstacles and reach my goal. Later, I had to earn the credibility of being an amazing karate student; this created a job opportunity for me. The head instructor asked me to work for him and told me that I had thirty days to prove that I was worthy of the job. These were the most nerve wrecking days of my life; if I made one mistake I would lose the opportunity of being an instructor. I had to prove not only to the instructor but to myself that I was able to complete this task with ease. Once I had completed the thirty days and received the job offer, I felt like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders. An overwhelming feeling of self pride
