In the play “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare love is an important theme. In this play, Juliet and Romeo fall in love while Romeo is trying to get over Rosalind and Juliet is having an arranged marriage, their families are also feuding. In Shakespeare's play, Mercutio, Romeo and Juliet all have different views of love. Mercutio’s view of love is very humorous and not true, Romeo’s view of love is hopeless; he likes being in love, but does not like love itself. Lastly, Juliet’s view of love is logical; she does not follow love blindly.
One of the main themes in Cyrano De Bergerac, is love. This play really shows different types of blissful love, but even more types of unhealthy love. Some types are love thats not returned/ manipulative love, fake love, and love triangles. Due to the struggle of these types of love, competition rises and relationships develop. Mostly these types of negative love are between, Cyrano, Roxane, De Guiche/Valvert, and Christian.
He puts his feelings for Mercutio over his love for Juliet and risks exile. Romeo and Juliet does show that love has both costs and benefits. In the end, Love costs Romeo and Juliet their lives, which brings much sadness to their
This is odd as the object of her affections is her husband, whom has no feelings towards her. He is undeserving of her love,as Emilia could be offering all this love to one whom actually deserves it. This is a good character trait in Emilia. Due to her not getting the love she wants from husband, she develops the belief that women should be able cheat on there husbands. Subsequently they had a rocky relationship, even though
In ‘Cosi’, a play written by Louis Nowra, the meaning of love is explored and challenged by the different views of the mental patients, the protagonist Lewis and his friends Nick and Lucy. Nowra considers the importance of love in human relationships and a deeper enduring bond of love based on trust, respect and loyalty. The relationship between Lewis and the patients changes him. At the beginning of the play Lewis is narrow minded and thinks that in those days politics is more important than love. However, as he continues to perform with the patients finds for himself that love is most definitely imperative for humans.
Now think about Romeo’s “love at first sight” with Juliet, they cannot get enough of each other, weakened at each other’s disappearance. This is an example of an impulse relationship. They don’t care about their feuding families; they just want to be
Another possible interpretation of Orsino’s thoughts could be seen as him as not being consumed with love itself, but indulging the idea of it. Therefore, he does not necessarily truly love Olivia, but has heard about love and desires to participate in the feeling. This is an example of courtly love, where only by long devotion and much suffering could a man win his ideal woman, where such love was sexless and idealised. In reality, it usually meant that men like Orsino were in love with the idea of love, rather than love itself. Overall, it is made clear that love will be a main theme of ‘Twelfth Night’ as it presents itself within the
He uses love in its guises to thread together the key relationships in the play. Some characters fall in and out of love very quickly in Romeo and Juliet. For example Romeo is in love with Rosaline at the start of the play, which is presented as an immature infatuation. Today we might use the term “puppy love”, to describe this. Romeo’s love for Rosaline is shallow and nobody really believes that it will last.

Although Nick does not like some things about Jordan, he oversees those traits and lets his attraction toward her dominate his feelings. Their relationship, though, soon fades away and falls due to the event of the death of a woman named Myrtle, to which Jordan starts shows indifference and shallowness. This is the reason as to Nick and Jordan’s relationship falling apart.
Anna was drowning in the misery of her marriage and in guilt from seeing another man on one side but is happy to be with Gurov. Anna states that, “for years now they had not been comfortable together, in their intimacy and at a distance… It was something they might have known once” (Oates 449), which explains that her unhappy marriage forced her to search for a person to fulfill the lost emotions at home. Committing adultery is more of an emotional fulfillment that it is a physical need but it derives from the want to find someone who means something more. If couple who married shows that they do not love each other mutually, it should be acceptable for the two to be involved in an affair because neither of them truly gets hurt, providing act of cheating to be meaningless and
