The Seeds of Discouragement The foreboding realties in which children and youth exist in whereby “seeds of discouragement” are inceptions of “more complex reciprocal interaction between an active, evolving biopsychological human organism and the persons, objects and symbols in its immediate environment” (Bronfrenbrenner, 1994: 38). Subsequently in tern children resort to disturbing ways of expressing those internal “seeds of discouragement” (Balson, 2007: n.p). Contemporary civilisation is known for prominent agents or structures within micro level as being self aligned, individualistic and alienated thereby forming an estranged mesosystem for the development of the already vulnerable child and youth (Brendtro, Brokenleg & Bockern, 2002: 7). This essay will focus on the transactions within the micro system namely family, friends, school and work, coupled with the four profiles of the ecological hazards. Additionally describing why placing negative of defiance is cause for criticism. Particularly how the Child and Youth care worker formulates assessments and therapeutic approach so as to avoid discouraging and rather bolster the flourishing from ecological hazards by concentrating on their strengths, engraving a belief for hope, developing honest authentic relationships and involving the child and adolescent and parent, teacher and peers in their program set up. According to Brendtro, Brokenleg and Bockern (2002: 7-8) children and youth who are at risk due to the volatile transactions among their micro environment namely, family, friends, school and work have provided “seeds of discouragement” due to the damage either physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. Each of these environments for which have engraved such discouragement, have thereupon acted as a catalyst for exposing children and youth to the ecological hazards within their lifespace offered
