Seatbelt Seatbelts are very important for safety. “Of those killed in nightmare car accidents, 9,615 were not wearing seatbelts. The national highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) seatbelt stats: In 2002, 43,005 people died in traffic accidents. Seatbelt data was available for 32,598 of those involved in fatal car crashes.” As in 2009 57% of Americans didn’t wear a seatbelt. Over 33,000 people die each year just because of not wearing a seatbelt. They say that people who don’t wear their seatbelt are four times more likely to be killed in a car accident, than other people who do wear seatbelts. So, as you can see, it is very important to wear a seatbelt. You never know when an accident will occur. In today’s society Police Officers are cracking down on people that do not wear their seatbelts, because not only is it important but it’s the law. “Of the total traffic collision deaths, 56.4% involved passengers or drivers who weren’t wearing seatbelts.” Laws requiring seatbelt use are either ‘Primary’ or ‘Secondary’ enforcement laws. Primary enforcement laws allow police officers to pull over drivers and issue tickets just because the driver or their passengers aren’t wearing seatbelts. All in all, it is extremely important to wear your seatbelt while riding in a car. So, spread the word of the importance of wearing your seatbelt. Seatbelts prevent drivers and passengers from being ejected during a crash.
