Killer Whales are marine animals that live in oceans all over the world. Although they live in many oceans, they seem to prefer coastal waters and cooler regions. The Killer Whale, sometimes called an Orca, sometimes enters estuaries, but doesn’t go far from the sea. Killer whales are one of the top predators in the sea. They are good hunters that eat a large variety of fish, squid, sharks, marine mammals (such as whales and seals), turtles, octopi, and birds (penguins and gulls).
Dr Euan Ritchie stated “When sharks were culled in Hawaii there was no long-term benefit because sharks attacks occurred immediately after”. Why then, waste billions of taxpayers’ money on a solution that has previously shown it does not work? In South Africa, again, according to statistics from the KwaZulu-Natal Shark Board, “less than 18 per cent of marine life caught on drum lines in South Africa in the 2011 to 2012 financial year have been great white or tiger sharks” with animals mentioned in the above paragraph contributing to the other 78%. A large scale cull would be highly redundant then as Australia would be no different from Hawaii and South Africa. In New South Wales and Queensland “there have been severe shark attacks on beaches that are protected by nets”, highlighting how wrongly this issue is being
The Northern Snakehead can survive up to four days out of water and can grow up to 33 inches long. The species has been nicknamed “Frankenfish” due to its shark-like teeth and aggressiveness. It was first introduced in a pond in Crofton, Maryland in June 2002. Researchers believe the species ended up in the U.S. due to uncaring disposal of aquarium pets. Other researchers think some people were trying to breed Snakeheads as they bring a large amount of money in some areas.
That was just mind blowing to me and it showed why this business of shark finning is such a huge business. Also the movie talks about line fishing which I have never heard of before this video. Line fishing is when a fishing boat takes miles and miles of fishing line full of baited hooks and tosses it out in the water for fish, sharks, turtles, or just any type of sea creature to bit or get tangled in and die. Line fishing is illegal in most countries but there is such a huge business in it a lot of countries will not do anything to stop the fishermen from doing it. For example when Rob and the crew of the Sea Shepard were trying to stop the Varadera from line fishing the Varadera crew was let off the hook by the Costa Rica government even though they were illegally fishing, but the Sea Shepard was charged with 7 counts of attempted murder.
Younger lionfish have a unique tentacle above their eye sockets, which differs in appearance between species, but studies show that this tentacle has evolved over time in each species serving to attract new prey. Juvenile lionfish eat mostly invertebrates, but shift their diet to fish as adults and eat reef fish. Adult lionfish spread their pectoral fins and use them to "herd" prey. This is a very effective predatory style because it is unfamiliar to native Florida fish. However, Lionfish can have negative effects on the overall reef habitat as they can eliminate organisms which serve important ecological roles such as herbivorous fish which keep algae in-check on the reefs.
The pots were about 3 feet 6 inches and contained two to three dozen good size crayfish weighing about two several pounds. The men said it was about one hundred and fifteen to three hundred feet long. Another eyewitness saw a great white shark the size of a tractor trailer had attacked a person. Many sharks have been clocked out as fast as 1.5 miles and the mega shark could probably swim in a longer distance since this is a bigger shark. Two percent of the ocean has been overlooked by people ant it leaves ninety-eight percent of the ocean for the megladon can swim.
They have been known to feed on fish, dolphins, whales and seals. Sharks prefer meals with a high fat content to give them energy. They are ambush hunters, taking their prey by surprise from underneath. They have been known to come up from the bottom so fast that their entire body has left the water. The Great White has only one natural predator, the orca.
Great White Shark is the most fearful predators in the ocean, this animal is known for killing humans and other living things that is in their path. Even though these animals are very feared they are also endangered to being excint. There are only 3,500 Great White Sharks in the world .The great white shark was added to the endangered list because its population has dropped because excessive hunting. The great white shark is not killed by any other predator in the ocean. However, humans have killed a great number of white sharks to get their teeth and jaws for trading and for safety issues.
They accomplish this by feeding on algae and bacteria. 8 Species of mussels are native to the river. The most prevalent are the eastern elliptio mussel and the eastern lamp-mussel. Mussels are eaten by a variety of birds, turtles, fish, muskrats and other mammals. Zebra Mussels are an invasive species that can cause harm to native species by attaching themselves to their shells preventing free movement and can even cut off their oxygen
The populations are becoming so hard to find that fisheries are now catching the fish in estuaries, a place where the juveniles grow. There is also no ban on fishing them during certain seasons. This leads to the capture of pregnant females, and of juveniles. The population has declined so much that many fisheries have gone out of business. The reason I don’t think that the consumption from predators is why the population is declining so rapidly is the fact that these predators have been hunting these fish for hundreds of years.
