Scientific Validation of Drug Development and Clinical Research In Ayurveda Dr. G. S. Ayurveda, the holistic medicine and healthcare as a whole deals with physical, mental and spiritual health of people. The collective consideration of the psyche and soma is the core concern of the holistic medicine. According to Ayurveda, the whole world as well as the human being are made up of the five basic elements and are governed by three doshas (humours) i.e. Vata, Pitta & Kapha. The balanced state of the three doshas maintains the body functions and the imbalance causes diseases. The object of Ayurveda is to counteract the imbalance of the three doshas. Ayurveda treats a patient as a whole and not the disease alone. This holistic medicine emphasizes the uniqueness of each person with regard to his bioidentity, socio-economical status, biochemical and physiological conditions, which may lead to a particular type of illness. In order to satisfy the various aspects of the treatment, Ayurveda designed a wide range of pharmaceutical preparations specific for different disease conditions by giving due consideration to the fundamentals viz. palatability, adoptability, stability, etc. The Ayurvedic pharmaceutical (Bhasiajya Kalpana) embraces within its fold the drugs of plant, animal and mineral origin; both single drugs and compounded formulations. The vital aspects such as manufacturing of drugs/ formulations for research purposes; their package, dosage, distribution, standardization and quality control, planning & designing of pre-clinical and clinical studies etc are detailed in classical literature in basic form, and andmay be comparable to various
