Calvin’s motivation for his acts during the reformation was to start a transition into making and becoming a healthy Church that was seen correct under the eyes above the Bible. Calvin, disagreeing with the church on many levels, fled France in fear of persecution by the Catholic king and settled in the Swiss City of Geneva, Calvin’s ideas flourished the community during and in a short time Calvin and his beliefs in Christianity were strongly mended into the community. Calvinism was formed because of his strong desire to change the Church during the reformation. As a result surrounding rulers and people from all over Europe adopted his beliefs and Calvin had made his
He believed the selling indulgences was wrong, and even the pope, Pope Leo X, did not have the authority to abolish sins through payments. Luther recognized that at this time, the Church was more focused on accumulating money than saving its people and spreading the word of Christ. Luther believed that only God has the ability to take away the sins of humanity. Martin Luther published his opinions in a document titled Ninety-Five Theses. The monk's writing spread quickly around Europe, and he soon posed a serious threat to the Catholic Church.
Luke 6:27-28 (NIV) states, “But I tell you who hear: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you.” The Bible was taken out of context and used to expand power and influence for those usurping power over the body of Christ rather than the Crusades being honestly used to advance Christ’s kingdom. The scars caused by the majority of these Crusades are still bleeding today as the conflict between Islam and the rest of the world continues on when mission’s work is what was truly needed at a time the church chose to carry the
Part A One individual world leader that made a significant social change to the world was Martin Luther. Martin Luther brought about changes to the Catholic Religion. Martin Luther saw that people of an uneducated background and the lower pay scale were being taken advanced of by members of the Catholic Religion and church. The people were informed that if they paid monetary payments to the Catholic Church that it would save them from their sins and would save them from going to hell. Martin thought that this was sinful and decided to begin his own church.
The Catholics may have been angry with the church but their church got reform and that’s what they wanted. The Catholic Church had no choice but to sale indulgence that was the pope’s orders and back in that time the Catholics followed the pope. The Catholic Church spent their money on unnecessary things. The church didn’t think wisely, but all of that changed because Martin Luther reformed the church and John Calvin helped. The pope lead the church and decided a person gets into heaven, but William Tyndale believes that if you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savoir then you’ll get into heaven, and I believe the same things as Tyndale, you shouldn’t have to prove yourself to the pope that you deserve to go to heaven and the pope shouldn’t get to decide.
Luther’s first step was to attempt reform within the Catholic church was posting “The 95 Theses on the Power of Indulgences” on the door of the church of Wittenberg to directly protest the selling of indulgences. Condemning indulgences was, in fact, condemning the pope, and his authority to grant pardons to the Catholics. Opposing indulgences was not the end of opposing the pope, however, when the pope sent Luther a letter telling him to take back his words or be excommunicated, Luther burned the letter publicly. Eventually when Luther was excommunicated, he continued to spread his heretical ideas especially through his writings, some of which included “On Christian Liberty” which led the peasant class to believe Lutheranism would lift their oppression and “An Appeal to the Christian Nobility of the German Nation” which invited Christian princes to take over the wealth of the German monasteries. Luther needed the support of the masses to bring about his reform.
Running head: GKE 1 TASK 2 GKE 1 TASK 2 Western Governors University Martin Luther During the time of Martin Luther the Catholic Church was teaching that one’s sins could be forgiven and punishment from God avoided by purchasing forgiveness. Two of his most significant social accomplishments were the challenging of the Catholic doctrine of that time and the translation of the New Testament into German and incorporating his own doctrine. Martin Luther brought changes to the Catholic Religion. Martin Luther noticed that the members of the Catholic Church were taking advantage of under privileged practicing Catholic’s by telling them that their sins would be forgiven if they were to contribute monetary means to the church. Martin Luther
The man who first rebelled against the Catholic Church was a man named Martin Luther. He did this by creating the 95 Thesis. Thesis number 32 states that “Those who believe that, through letters of pardon indulgences, they are made sure of their own salvation, will be eternally damned along with their teachers”. The 95 Thesis were reasonable and fair to all of England, unlike the Catholic Churches new rules. Henry VIII thought of the idea to challenge the church from Martin Luther.
In the 16th century people who were not catholic were killed and tortured, so that the catholic church could stay in power and people would stay catholic. Today the world is completely opposite, it accepts any religion even if it conflicts with other religion such as Judaism and Christianity. Those two religion hated each other in the past but have grown and evolved, they still have different beliefs but it doesn't matter since they learned to get along thanks to the inquisition. What the inquisition has done for the modern world is teach us what is wrong and what is right; it showed us our mistakes that we'll not do again. The expression "learn from our mistakes" is true in this situation.
Conversion is the receipt of God's free gift of saving grace. Protestants were constantly seeking signs to see if they were part of the elect, thus being apart of god and heaven. Puritans came from depressed areas such as the woolen district because this religion open the door to a way out and into heaven without having to pay the religious officials for a
