This is evident through their ingenuity of floating gardens, knowledge of plants' uses such as the Maguey plant, the sowing of corn, and written records of agricultural products. The Aztecs demonstrated great resourcefulness and intelligence when looking at how they utilized their natural assets. Exemplifying this was the native Maguey plant. It is recorded that it contained innumerable uses as the plant served as firewood, fencing, paper, roofing, plates, and cloth. (Document 2) The cultivation of plants also showed the ingenuity of the Aztecs.
After watching the Guns, Germs and Steel series about why the europeans conquer the world. I would agree with Jared Diamond and his explanation of how the Europeans were able to conquer an take over world. Throughout the series Jared points out many great ideas on how the Europeans were so successful in their journeys. Europeans greatest strength was their geographical location which brought them the most productive crops and animals on the planet. Jared says, "People around the world who had access to the most productive crops becomes the most productive farmers".
Although the Incas were more advanced and modern in their ways, the Inca and Aztec Empires were similar in some of the aspects that allowed them to be so successful and powerful. First, both civilizations had intensive agriculture mandated by the state. The crops were then redistributed to all the social classes equally. Both economies depended greatly on agriculture and farming, even producing some of the same crops such as corn and squash. Although agriculture based societies have been around for a long time in history and were pretty much the norm in this time period, their agriculture systems still created a surplus of crops, which allowed for increased populations.
This map would be useful to answering the question because it would display the negative effects of the Green Revolution visually and let me accurately compare the different regions and see where the consequences were worse. Some people would agree that the Green Revolution expanded agricultural supply and immensely benefitted farmers and the society as a whole (Docs 1, 2, 4). The technological advances that came along with the revolution helped with the growth of food production as well as world population by allowing farmers to manufacture an abundance of food suitable for more people. Since 1950, the wheat yields of Mexico and India multiplied about 4 times as much as the Green Revolution progressed (Doc 1). Because the Food and Agriculture Organization were the ones who
Task 1: Geography and the Development/Diffusion of Human Societies Princess Dana Catacutan Part A The most significant geographic factor that contributed to the development of the Fertile Crescent or Mesopotamia were the two rivers that surrounds it. Tigris and Euphrates rivers served great source of food and used for irrigation of crops. It was an ideal place for early people to settle in Mesopotamia to utilize the life giving water of these two rivers. Also, the two rivers were used for transportation and trade. Irrigation from the two rivers made it possible for the early settlers to farm and had abundant crops for trade.
The water from the rivers would flow through bringing down soil from the mountains in which made the soil super fertile. The fertile ground and great climate was a great place for agriculture. The rich soil and way to grow food helped contribute to this society. People were able to plant all kinds of crops and grow food. Since people were able to grow food they were able to start staying in one place instead of moving around.
One environmental factor that contributed to the development of the United States is the large areas fertile land in a temperate climate (http://makewealthhistory.org). The United States has large amounts of fertile land which lead to a basis for an agricultural economy when it was first settled. The climate is never too hot or too cold as to limit the workable hours in the day. The climate in the fertile lands also has a longer growing season then an area that is extremely hot most of the time. So when the United States was first colonized it the growing season and fertile land made the economy flourish.
1916) This information uncovered new perspectives on hemp and helped me realize and become in favor of the industrial uses of hemp for our world and soil that we live on and use daily’s health, and I hope it does the same for you. This leads me to my next main point. The Hemp seed can be made into oil for cars, and for many other things including food. Hemp oil also burns cleaner then oil keeping our planet cleaner. The most amazing thing about hemp is it can even be made into unimaginable
The development of Mesopotamia, whose names translates to “land between the rivers,” was a direct consequence of the Tigris and Euphrates and the impact they caused on the region. (Kreis, 2006) These rivers frequently flooded the region. Due to this flooding, soil composition was greatly impacted. The land between the rivers, called the alluvial plain, was highly fertile and full of life because of the rich soil composition. The people present in the region started to transition from their nomadic lifestyles to agricultural lifestyles because of the surety and safety the rivers gave in providing farmable land to produce ample food.
This allowed the worlds to have more trade and the people to have more variety and things to eat. Lastly, another important effect is that farm land is much more common since people are now farming the newly discovered land. The amount of calories per hectare or 100 acres has greatly increased, as stated in document 8, which is helpful to nourish people and expand trade. All these things greatly helped civilization and the worlds at this time period. The negative and deadly effects of the discovery of the Americas were undoubtedly costly to civilizations and worlds, as I will state in the following paragraphs.
