Review of Literature Everywhere you look people are drinking sports drinks before and after working out. The question is does it really benefit the body? The ingredients of Gatorade are water, sugar, table salt, carbohydrates, electrolytes, high fructose, corn syrup, artificial colors, and glucose fructose. The ingredients of Powerade are water, glucose fructose, citric acid, mineral salts, sodium chloride magnesium, chloride calcium, potassium, flavoring stabilizers, and sweetners. The ingredients of vitamin water are vapor distilled water, crystalliner, fructose, natural flavor, citric acid, grape juice, electrolytes, magnesium, chloride, potassium, ascorbic acid, gum arabic, and gotu kola extract. Vitamin water also contains vitamin E, vitamin C, and vitamin A. The claims of Gatorade is that it keeps athletes hydrated during compition. Another claim of Gatorade is that it hydrates better than water while working out. Something to watch out for is that Gatorade and cause obesity due to the amount of carbs. The claims of Powerade is that it gives the body energy to compete well in compition. It also says that it can replenish the body. The claims of vitamin water is that it is a good drink to drink in the morning because it gives you many vitamins to start of the day. It also says that it gives u energy to sports with. What it really does is yes it can give you energy. It can also give you vitamins and all that stuff but what can it really do? Well actually many pediatricans recommend these drinks to keep children adequately hydrated. They do this because of all the electrolytes in the drinks. What you cant do is drink to much of these drinks while working out. You cant do that because it has very high osmolality in it and it can make your stomach very upset. So while working out you would rather drink water because it has low osmolality so your stomach
