School uniforms can also be a very uncomfortable fashion that students would not take a liking to. They also won’t be the “quick fix” that many people think they are. The first reason uniforms should not be required is that most schools across the country believe uniforms take away from an individual’s identity, so they don't require their students wear them. In today's world a person’s identity and having a good sense of self is important to the diversity that Americans have shown in the past. In schools that require uniforms the student body all look like the same person, very bland and boring people.
Also families are affected by this too, as they would have to buy additional clothing on top of casual clothes for their children. Students are the most affected by uniforms because this takes away student’s individuality. Overall parents and students don’t like the ideas of having uniforms. Parents say it’s not necessary to have uniforms. “Forcing students to wear school uniforms only aggravates their rebellious spirit.” More fights will start over pointless school uniforms.
Parents should definitely have a right to say what their children can and cannot read, but they do not have the freedom to say what other children can or cannot read. Once a parent complains to a school, the school can’t do anything except pull the book out of the curriculum, and that is not equitable to anyone. There are plenty of reasons that people have come up with to justify banning a book. For example: “they teach children to spy” or “it encourages children to break dishes so they
Searching Lockers Protects Everyone Why do so many students oppose locker searches in schools? Some students believe these searches invade their privacy and without a probable cause they should not be allowed. Others believe these searches help the school to be safe and therefore probable cause is not necessary. The schools should be allowed to search lockers randomly for the safety and well being of the students and staff. Only one violent student can jeopardize the safety of others.
However, lexicographer Erin McKean said, “You are taught to be creative in everything you do, but when it comes to language, you are told not to.” Hence this prevents young teens from being creative and it doesn’t let them fully express themselves. Writer Lindsay Johns disagrees, “There is simply no place for slang in the classroom.” He feels that “Speaking slang makes pupils sound stupid and uneducated, but we all know that pupils aren’t stupid.” How can language develop if people think slang is 'bad' or 'stupid'? People have tried to apply rules to language for centuries, and every time they are broken and must be changed within 100 years. Banning slang in the classroom teaches pupils to never relax and to never have fun with language. People have been trying to ban slang in education for over 100 years, but will always exist and as long as language exists.
But teachers should be able to search lockers if they have a reason to. Teachers should be able to search lockers, and hey if you don’t do anything bad then you have nothing to worry about. Lockers are school property not the students’ property. Students’ basically rent it for a year…. without paying for it, Like it’s a free closet that is given to them.
Many educators tend to bend over backwards to give students breaks that they would not receive in the streets of society or the workplace. Kids that are taught less firm discipline end up being taught that there are no consequences for inappropriate behavior as long as it occurs on school grounds (Trump). The zero tolerance policy is very beneficial because it doesn’t allow room for anyone to slip through. Although there are many good things about this policy it also has a very negative side. “Schools across the United States have employed an unforgiving system of discipline in which children and youth are punished for punishment's sake.
I always thought that uniforms were put into place to slow down on bullying, and here the children are wearing them with a labeling color code such as this. How can children be catagorized like this? I would rather get made fun of because my clothes aren't the style or fashion that everyone else is wearing. I would dread wearing something that would label me such as this. If you're a top notch student, you may get picked on and called a nerd.
Like my professor says “ A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” I agree that dress codes will not make public schools perfect, but i can guarantee that it will make a big difference. Dress codes will keep the students more focused on the studies rather than worrying about what other students were saying about clothing. It will definitely decrease gang fights, which are taking place because of the different colored
Mathabanes sisters, who had previously lived in South Africa, were ridiculed by the other students because of their clothing (Mathabane). This example shows how school uniforms keep students from having to deal with bullying. If that school had enforced uniforms Mathabanes sister would not have been picked on. Why?, because they would have been dressed like everyone else. Huss also believes uniforms will decrease the discipline problems.
