School Transportation. There really isn't much to say about it other than THE WORST SERVICE. EVER. Why should I have to wake up 2 hours earlier than I normally do just so I can walk to school in time? Why can't I just walk to my street corner and get picked up on a bus? These are questions that run through minds of teenagers EVERYDAY. STOPR, peel regions bus provider does not provide bussing for students residing less than 4.8 km from their designated school of attendance which is absolutely ridiculous! It takes 60 minutes to get to school for someone who lives from that distance, and what if someone is unable to arrange a ride, does that mean they are expected to walk to school even in the worst of winter conditions? Yep, that's exactly what some students have to do in order to get to school. STOPR also says that students who live in an area where Public Transit is available are not eligible for Board-provided busing, but Public Transit costs 3.50$ per ride which means approximately $7.00 a day, $35 a week, $140 a month and $1260 a year. Now, where are students suppose to get all this money from? Majority of students don't have jobs, and their parents probably have enough bills already piling up. Students deserve to get buses provided by their board because it's such a struggle for students to get to and from school. For example let's compare Toronto and Brampton middle school busing, Toronto District School Board provides TTC service to students in grades 7-8 who reside 3.2km away from their school as well as some students in high school, and in Brampton, that's definitely not the case. I don't remember getting public transport or any kind of transportation in grade 7 and 8, I just remember having to walk to school every day.
