School Starts Too Early

The dreaded alarm clock rings. You get up, brush your teeth, and head to another long painful day at school. It wouldn’t be so bad if you were actually awake; but you’re not. Since school starts at 8:15, average guys should wake up at around 7:30 to get ready, but girls take much longer because they need to pick out an outfit, fix their hair, and some even put on makeup. Teenagers require around 10 hours of sleep every night. Some may require more, some may require less, but it should still be around 10 hours. In order to get that 10 hours, teens must sleep at 10p.m, which is too early. School nowadays start way too early and do not allow students to perform as well as they can. Sleep can affect many things; it may affect the student’s ability to concentrate in class, the ability to concentrate while doing homework, and their overall health Firstly, students need to be wide awake in order to take notes and actually learn in school. When they are woken up unnaturally without the 10 hours of sleep they require, it may hinder their ability to pay attention in class. The first day may be alright, but it lost sleep cannot be recovered. It keeps stacking up until it reaches Friday, the end of the week. The lost sleep stacks up from 2 hours a day, to 10 hours by the end of the week. If you think about it, that is a lot of time lost. Paying attention becomes hard and the student will become frustrated and maybe angry. If school started 1 or 2 hours later, they would be able to get more sleep and the amount of lost sleep would decrease by half. While being sleepy, frustrated, and not being able to pay attention in class, will not directly affect the student’s ability to learn and do well in school, but it will when a test or exam comes around.
