CASL Essay Assignment I would like to attend the CASL conference so that I can further my leadership journey. By going to CASL it will help me to grow in my abilities and qualities. When I grow, not only would I benefit myself as a better leader but our school would benefit also in their representation and leadership program. I would also like to attend CASL so that I can learn about service projects. I am very interested in starting a specific service project my junior year for CAS hours and this would be a great help to me with that.
Children like to feel cared about. To establish a good connection with the students it is better to make sure they know who they are dealing with. This way at the start of a new school year they will not be afraid to jump right in and start the learning process. In big schools there is not always the easiest way to make that happen. In Finland “one teacher will most likely teach one set of students for 5 years.” (p.4 ) This helps the teachers connect with the students on so many levels.
Since, I have been thinking of different ways of creating environments, seeing children’s strengths, abilities, and communicating with families during this class, I am going to briefly discuss two things I plan to implant in my professional experience. First, I would have a discussion with my supervisor and staff to come together to help enforce more universal design learning our facility. I need to set goals in each one of my classes and stay focused and put my school work first. The accomplishments I have made in the past relate to the information I have learned about myself in the self-assessments. In the past when it came to school work I had a tendency to become unorganized. However I learned to organize my work and learn strategies to study and eventually I found a way that seemed to fit me the most. When it come to my personality, in the past I always have put others before myself.
I then of course have always had certain morals and ideas I believed were crucial to bring into the classroom, but now that I have become more educated on the subject of math which I can say that my outlook of teaching has opened up to a variety of different methods, “out of the box,” kind of thinking. I am a firm believer that all needs the tools and concepts to be the educator that all kids need to have so that they can carry on with these concepts throughout their lives as needed. The mentioned concept of the educator’s course has taught me not only the math concepts itself, but also different ways for me to teach a class and bring such concepts to life for my classes that I will hopefully teach. My goal is not to become a perfect educator teacher, but to do the best teaching I can do. By taking this course and knowing the following the Principles and Standards I will now be able to take what I’ve learned from this class and put it to use.
In Middle class schools students are expected to learn and follow the guidelines the teachers provide. Anyon analyzed that students in middle class schools must “follow the directions in order to get the right answers, but directions often call for some figuring, some choice, and some decision making.”(p128) Students should often figure out what the directions ask and solve the problem themselves. The teachers are there to give students the first step in order for them to succeed. Milpitas high is also an Affluent Professional school. Those parents have to stay vigorously involved in schooling their kids. Surely the obligation to ensure our nation’s future must be shared also by those who don’t have children in the public schools. Those people who should take an interest in the students that will eventually be stepping into the workforce. They should be developing work-study groups, internships and job placement banks that they can recruit and develop to be successful. Evidently, the tasks of educating our children nowadays are a lot more difficult than simple examinations and easy solutions.
This does not mean that parents have no rights to what happens to their child while they are at school but this allows school to guide student behaviors though discipline. This idea is called in loco parentis (pg. 378). This concept was once more important in schools than it is now but it has brought forth it idea that no matter the student, disabled or not, there needs to be a certain level of responsibility put on all students for their behaviors when they are at school. This would be a great chapter of the book for parents to read because it would help them to understand why the school is doing what it is doing.
