14 February 20012 A significantly important dilemma in the American school system is retention of new teachers. I was recently inspired by the “State of Union” address by our President, Barak Obama. For the past recent years, President Obama has focused on the importance of education and those who teach us. He admonishes teachers and recognizes the need to increase their earning power because of their sacrifice to educate the nation. We must address the issue of retaining good teachers. Three major reasons why it is so difficult to retain teachers is salary, classroom management and stress. Salary Teachers were ranked the #10 job for college graduates in 2009. The chart below, offered by Pay Scale, an online salary, benefits and compensation information company, shows the median income for teachers in the country.
