What challenges did the interviewees face? And lastly, the author will look at the following: What specific recommendations the interviewees have for successful completion of a dissertation. Using the three themes above, the author will also explore subheadings to the interview question themes. Two doctoral researchers, Dr. Allen and Dr. Lacy are the interviewees. Their dissertations were in the field of education, library media science and student international studies, respectively.
I look forward to the countless opportunities to become intellectually engaged in an attempt to understand and solve complex problems as they relate to leadership and K-12 education. Drawing from the doctoral dispositions (Grand Canyon University, 2011b), I am here to reflective on my practice by asking questions of myself and others. I will learn to self-reflect and continuously search for new meaning, new truth, or new knowledge in order to grow and develop as a practitioner-scholar. Doctoral Motives of Study Leonard, Becker and Coate (2005) maintained the most powerful reason for individuals to obtain a doctorate degree as personal ambition. Findings identified personal ambition as a more powerful force than both career advancement and personal growth combined (Leonard et al., 2005).
Having the ability to think critically can affect how students do in their classes and their careers. By requiring students to take literature and composition, they are given the opportunity to learn how to be critical thinkers. Having the ability to clearly and rationally understand the logical order of medical and scientific research papers is an important skill to have when studying in the area of biomedical sciences. Independently thinking about and reflecting on the various topics presented to them throughout their education is an important skill. Learning to be a critical thinker with the vast array of material presented throughout university is an important skill for all students.
Secondly, the clash among discourse. This is a big issue. Dictionary definition of discourse is ‘verbal expression in speech or writing’ or ‘a formal, lengthy discussion of a subject either written or spoken’. Students begin university, they see things they recognize, and that’s what they want to communicate about. Discourse proves difficult for the newer students as they aren’t familiar with university curriculum.
It provides me opportunities to mix professional practice with teaching and research. I anticipate that this will be a challenging journey, but my perseverance, determination and self-motivation will serve me well along the way. As will my ability to communicate with others, apply the knowledge I will gain, and learn from those around me. I will be challenged to improve my writing skills, but rather than seeing this as a weakness, I see it as a challenge. As a doctoral student, the key ingredients to success in the program will be to effectively manage time and maintaining a highly motivated disposition.

An examination ensures the work is authentic but due to the stress levels involved not all learners may do themselves justice in this setting. Also some learners may master the technique of meeting criteria and scoring a high grade without having a full comprehension of the topic. Furthermore, they provide information too late about a student's performance (Popham, 1999) and they are disconnected
The more children know about their world, the easier it is for them to read and learn when they get to school. You have an important role to play in helping children learn new information, ideas, and vocabulary and how to use this knowledge to become full participants in their own learning. You can help children to connect new information and ideas to what they already know and understand. As a teacher, you and the children's parents and caregivers are partners in helping to get the children ready for future school success. Good communication with parents and caregivers can build support for and strengthen the important work that you are doing in the classroom.
One of the many challenges that face adult learners is that they have world experience. They tend to want to take their knowledge from the workplace into an academic environment and most times the knowledge that has gotten them through so much of their lives already will not help them in an academic setting. Because adults are set in their ways, it is difficult to break old habits to form new learning habits. In being aware of this problem, instructors can come up with ways to form new learning habits. Instructors have to come up with ways to show the adult learners that they can examine their text to form their own opinions and help the student link their coursework in one class to another so that they can feel that there is a relevant purpose to learning the text and putting in the time.
