Scholar-Practice Leadership Model Assist the Doctoral Learner In Overcoming Information Literacy by the Scholar Temika Owens In this paper, it is intended to accomplish a presentation of how some doctoral students overcome information literacy by engaging in the scholar-practice-leadership model in learning academically, professional and personal lives. As a scholar the student should know how to access scholar peer-reviewed research correctly and critically analyze journals, periodicals, and articles. The student will have all opportunity to increase scholarly research by going through the doctoral program, professions and personal lives. Russell, (2009) stated students lack an understanding of what constitutes good quality scholarly information. Students difficulty evaluating the glut of information available, and to cope they frequently depend on quick but questionable sources, like Dictionary.com, which can result in a blind acceptance of advertising-based information, or sources that depend on a truth by consensus approach such as Wikipedia.(Russell, 2009). Instructors as well as a student need to critically think about whom they are acquiring the research from. Is the knowledge credible and reliable to the student who is utilizing it? It would be most effective for students if a post-secondary information literacy component was one of many in a long program of instruction starting in primary school. The need for learning approaches that emphasize synthesis, and the central role of information in developing discipline-specific intellectual frameworks make the teaching of information literacy (Russell,…show more content…
Motivation and determination by the doctoral student will ensure studying and critically thinking concerning scholarly peer-reviewed research they obtain. The learner should have time to practice the information literacy capability through critical writing and analyzing the subject matter.
