In his essay, “Why We Crave Horror Movies,” Stephen King tells us that some reasons we like a good horror flick are: to prove that we aren’t afraid of things that go bump in the night, to make us feel “normal,” and to have some good old-fashioned fun. Upon reading these assertions, I began to reflect on my own attitudes about the horror film genre. I have never considered myself to be a horror film fan. I tend to shy away from movies with extreme gore, violence, and gratuitous blood shed. They aren’t fun.
A horror show will create an uneasy, eerie atmosphere and is intended to frighten watchers. Horrors can include real life situations such as serial killers like in the movie Halloween or purely fictional situations and be based on the paranormal like the show Supernatural. This show has two main characters who hunt demons, werewolves, witches and every other supernatural creature imagined. While both of these shows are very entertaining they arouse two different emotions and should be chosen from
ACT LIKE A LADY, THINK LIKE A MAN I rushed to watch this romantic comedy movie which was released on April 20th 2012, at a theater in Gahanna on 5/16/2012.My friends commented that it was hilarious. They claimed it will make me laugh and that it is a lesson for our present day relationships. A romantic comedy movie is always my favorite to watch and it just makes me happy. This impractical comedy film is based on Steve Harvey’s book: Act like a Lady Think like Man, which was published in 2009. It was directed by Tim Story, who won the best theatrical director award for comedy movie, The Barbershop in 2002 and the best image award for Fantastic Four in 2005.The comedian turned actor Steve Harvey is very successful and funny in the entertainment industry today.
Crash The movie crash does a very good job exposing how common stereotyping people really is. Many people are affected by this every day. I really hope this movie helped people realize how much they affect people by what they say or how they act towards people just based off of stereotypes. Stereotyping is defined in our book as exaggerated generalizations associated with a categorizing system. Stereotypes may be based on a kernel of truth, but they go beyond the facts at hand and make claims that usually have no valid basis.
Happy Memory My happy memory was when I went to watch my favourite movie in the cinemas (picture house cinema in Stratford) with my friends. It was called “divergent,” I read all the three series books of it. And I was so excited to watch the actual movie. Spending months watching the trailers again and again, I have finally gone to watch the full movie. I watched my book come to life in front of my eyes; not in my head anymore.
As I look down the list of movies to watch to write this paper I realized I had recently seen a movie titled Crash that embodied a lot of stereotypes that are constantly a problem in our country today. I had been meaning to watch this movie because of its great reviews it had received. The title of the movie Crash could not have been more perfectly placed. In America we found ourselves in the most culturally mixed Country, and with that are sure to bring differences and racism. Like a car crash we are accidently placed in situations everyday that bring out our own stereotypes towards others that we sometimes do not even realize.
I would love to wake up and listen to the positive events on the news instead of all the negative events. I would love to walk outside at night without thinking about someone jumping me. After watching this movie, it really had me thinking about all the gun violence in the United States. I am still shocked at the number of killings resulting from gun violence. I wish there would be something I could do to help the number go down but I’m just one person with a little
There are millions of different types of movies, and hundreds of different targeted audiences, but all of these movies have one thing in common-to catch the eye of their specific audience. Movies such as comedies, documentaries and dramas can have a negative effect on children of today’s society. The big screen movie Ted is a perfect example of a comedy bearing negative influence on its viewers and consumers. A marketing strategy used a lovable cute kid’s toy and turned him into a cursing, sex loving, marijuana smoking stuffed animal. This strategy was able to attract children of all ages to the movie theater to watch a cute little toy bear become a grown man’s best friend that leads to all type of negative behaviors.
Let’s Talk Pillow Talk Instantly, I was enthralled by the title name of the movie, “Pillow Talk”. Before the movie even started playing in class, I wondered what the movie could be about, while Doris Day sang the joyful “Pillow Talk” song at the beginning of the film. When the movie came to the point where Brad overhears that the girl sitting behind his table at the nightclub is not only Jonathan’s dream woman, but also the other half of his partyline, the excitement of the movie started to kick in. From that point on, I enjoyed every part of the hilarious comedy film. Michael Gordon illustrates Jan Marrow falling in love with Brad Allen and keeping her antagonistic telephone 'relationship' with her enemy in “Pillow Talk”, in order to convey that dishonesty can fool an individual into mistaking one’s identity as people can be totally different from who they were once perceived to be.
Horror Films and Society as Mirrors Since the beginning of time, violent crimes have been committed. From crimes of jealously, insanity, revenge, and even crimes of passion, criminals have always found a motive to validate their reason to hurt or kill. These crimes have dated back before the idea of movies, much less horror movies, was thought about. If this is the case, why would one believe that the violence in horror films is influential to society? Although horror movies can be psychotic, gory, and may sometimes give creative ideas to criminals; criminals committed heinous crimes before the television was even invented.
