Scary Day for a New House It was a normal hot September afternoon in Hickory Flat, which is a small community between Canton and Roswell. I was an energetic 6 year-old girl, carefree and visiting with my granny, my mother’s mother. During most summers and lots of weekends I would stay with her. Granny lived behind her Uncle Lint in his renter house. Unknowing to us, that day would change our lives forever. I would become very self-conscious, scared of dogs for the rest of my life, and my granny would get a new house. I was always outside playing just as I did every day when staying with Granny. That particular day, we had been working in her flower garden. Granny had a green thumb and could make anything grow; all of her flowers were huge colorful and abundant. I went to the upper part of her yard where Uncle Lint and his dog, a German Shepard, were outside enjoying the day too. The dog and I had played together many times in the past. Before anyone realized what had happened the dog bit me on the face. He tore my ear and caused 3 other large gashes in my face. The dog had a viscous grip on me and was not letting go until Uncle Lint screamed at the dog. Granny came running as fast as possible. I was then rushed to the hospital and had to have my ear connected back to my head along with hundreds of other stitches. As a child this was an overwhelming event. I then had to go back in for two additional plastic surgeries. The one gash that was closest to my mouth was pulling my lips and cheek and was causing me to have speech difficulties. At school, I was harassed by other kids about the scars on my face. Kids can be cruel and not necessarily understand the torment that they are causing.
