Also teachers need to make sure all the equipment the learners will be using during the course is safe for them to use. Ground Rules. When starting the course, a teacher should make sure they create a safe environment in the classroom: this means making sure everybody is comfortable with everybody else and nobody is trying to bully anyone. When working with adult learners it could be better to have ‘commonly agreed ground rules’ so they can agree with each point and find elements to discuss. This is good because when they get to decide the ground rules it’s more unlikely that they are going to break them.
Devin Dufrene Essay 4 April 14, 2009 Failure Failure! Some students are afraid of it, Then again some students are given grades and passed anyway. Students should not be given grades and diplomas if they did not learn the necessary information and earn the grade. In this essay I will respond on how I agree with Mary Sherry in “In Praise of the F Word “on how students are hurt later in life First, if student doesn’t learn necessary information in high school he or she will not be able or having a lot off trouble in the after life with college or there new job. In example, if a student gets by in his English class not caring and not trying to learn, but his teacher likes the student so he passed him, when that student goes to college he will have trouble because he doesn’t know how to write a correct essay because he was given the grade.
Random locker checks are not done to torment and/or invade the privacy of the students, but for many other important reasons which include school security. These checks are required because malicious students bring drugs and weapons to school and store them in the lockers. Random locker checks should be made obligatory and done frequently to assure the wellbeing of the students. In the first place, locker checks help increase the safety in schools. Safety is a problem in every environment and especially school.
School uniforms can also be a very uncomfortable fashion that students would not take a liking to. They also won’t be the “quick fix” that many people think they are. The first reason uniforms should not be required is that most schools across the country believe uniforms take away from an individual’s identity, so they don't require their students wear them. In today's world a person’s identity and having a good sense of self is important to the diversity that Americans have shown in the past. In schools that require uniforms the student body all look like the same person, very bland and boring people.
School uniforms are not only items that cause a lack of freedom of expression but also a largely ineffective way to help solve the problems they were meant to. Actually, look at it this way “Consider for a moment the problem of gangs. The wearing of gang colors is only a symptom of much deeper social problems, and in most of the schools where gangs are prevalent, the wearing of gang colors has already been banned. Uniforms do not address the complex social realities that lead to gang culture”. (“Point: The High Cost of School Uniforms”).
If the teachers didn’t care about their education, how would you expect students to stay in school when the teachers don’t care whether they attend or not. However, Sam was lucky to have Carla, the counselor at Seton Hall, who did more things than she should have to motivate the doctors to succeed in college. “She feared that if one of us dropped out of the program, she risked losing all three of us. She vowed not to allow that to happen, and she became our angel, guiding, protecting, and pushing us as we traveled
But this injures students educationally as well. While the rest of the world references Vietnam in many of today’s situations or debates on whether Iraq is the next Vietnam and other issues, high school students are left out of the loop because their high school textbooks and teachers refuse to teach them what they should learn, what they ought to learn. High school students are hurt the most because of this. While textbook authors and editors are not likely to break away from the template soon, they should at least find a way around the system to provide pictures and information that would give students sufficient knowledge on the topic of Vietnam. That way students would be able to keep up with issues from which parallels to Vietnam are drawn or participate in such
How can you judge and trust a person's character just by their status? As we grow up, we are taught not to fight violence with violence, because it only leads to more harm and doesn't solve the problem in any way. If a student harms someone, why should the teacher hurt or maybe even kill the student? This teaches people the wrong values. You may be thinking that teachers are unable to stand up to students or outside threats under current school conditions, but that doesn't mean we have to take these extreme measures.
Don’t You Think It’s Worth It? Sure the thought of someone searching your things may be a little disturbing, but your child’s safety is definitely worth it. Your children go to school to learn, to a place where you are not going to be to protect them, to the same place where other, more troubled kids go to. Sometimes these troubled kids are angry, want attention, or are just bored, so they bring in drugs or weapons. I am sure that you do not want your children exposed to this, and there is a way to stop it.
I am currently working at two elementary schools and fortunately, sexual harassment is not a prevalent issue on campus. I think that if there were any sexual harassment-like behavior, I think it would be similar to the news report concerning the six-year-old student who was suspended for sexual harassment. In that situation, it was more a student not knowing appropriate boundaries or behavior at school rather than sexual harassment. Many students in an elementary setting do not even know what sex is let alone sexual harassment and I think it can and would be traumatizing to put that label on that type of behavior if it is unknowingly done. I am fully aware that there are exceptions to this, especially regarding sexual harassment between adults and students, and it is certainly important to be aware of the laws under Title IX and always be alert and tuned into the behaviors and actions of students, no matter their age.
