Roxy Barker Ms. Langkusch AP English/ 4th period 3 December 2012 Satire Essay Dear Administration, Students here at Carlmont High School have been conversing lately about the way our school is run. We were having an exceptionally hard time thinking of ways in which to improve the school, but with much thought, a few problems have presented themselves that I believe deserve a second look. We hope you keep in mind that these suggestions are not to be taken personally by any one member of the administration here at school. Administration has attempted to declare this, but a sharpie does not ensure our safety. Reflective tape should be added to each vest over the room number to reinforce our location for that period. Third, a dirty vest is a useless vest. Many of the classrooms have overused, dirty and unsanitary vests. This is a result of some students “superior” attitude that leads to disregard for the upkeep of the vest. They get dropped on the bathroom floor, dangled under the water streaming out of the water fountain and shoved into pockets. Brand new orange vests should be distributed as soon as possible to ensure their effectiveness. Fourth, despite their neon color, the vests are not 100% visible in all conditions. To accompany the reflective tape spelling out the classroom number, a flashing light should be attached to the top of the right shoulder. This light should be turned on as soon as the student leaves the classroom and not turned off until that student returns, having reached their classroom safely. To some it may seem extensive, but to a public school student is seems to be fit for all that is considered. Allowing just one student out of all classrooms at a time only seems right to give them the added protection and security they deserve. An escort should be present whenever a student is leaving their classroom and is to follow them in whatever task they must accomplish. We do not intend this to come off as being unreasonable, but a student’s safety is not something to joke about. There are some parameters a safety-escort would need to follow, but any of those would be a refinement compared to the ultimate goal of protecting the student in the
