In most games, there is only one winner and a loser, at times there are even several losers in a game. These same standards are often easily applied to life, at times there is a winner and loser. There is never multiple winners in a game and at times there is no winner. This can be demonstrated in many examples throughout literature. It can be shown in the plays Death of a Salesman and Romeo and Juliet. The play Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, clearly exemplifies how there is a winner and a loser in life. All Willy Loman strives for in life is to have his own version of the American Dream, in which he is a well-established salesman with a beautiful home and a happy, successful family. Though none of this is accomplished because he has countless failed sales trips and shatters his son’s Biff illusion of happiness and loses his son in the process. For instance, he cheats on his wife in an earlier series of sales trips to a certain store. Biff later discovers when he follows his father on a sales trip to the store and the hotel which he is staying at and catches his father and the other woman. Furthermore, Biff runs away after he graduates from high school and takes various jobs that led his father to nothing, but disappointment in his son. Although, Willy fails to see that his actions are why, in a sense, he has lost his son Biff. And by the end of the play, Willy commits suicide because he has lost his son and hope for the American Dream. In addition, another example of there being winners and losers in life is Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The Montague’s and Capulets’ are feuding families who have passed there long hatred for one another in their children. Though Mercutio, a friend of the Montague’s son Romeo, invites the Montague boys to a masked ball at the Capulet manor. While, there Romeo meets Juliet, unaware that she is a Capulet,
