I will get to know each child, establish relationships with parents, and support their strengths as well as their needs. I will express my own emotions and respond to the children’s emotions, valuing their feelings and helping them express what they are feeling. But above all, I will make sure that every child feels secure in my room and are comfortable coming to me as their teacher. I provide a positive relationship with the child through daily routines and interactions. I feel this gives the children and parents a sense of trust.
Good afternoon and welcome to Clark State Community College’s 49th commencement ceremony. My name is Heather Anne Powell, and I have been selected to represent the graduating class. I want to thank each of you for taking the time to be here today. It is a momentous event for some in the room. Others of you are here because there will be cake.
I will always do a fun warm up which helps break the ice. I need to be approachable at all times during the class and if necessary before and after. A learner needs to know that they can ask questions at the appropriate time in a class and get the answer they need either from me or on occasions, a fellow learner. This makes the class interactive. Inclusion of all students is important.
The kids who participate also get a free kids meal from Chick-fil-A, and who passes up a free meal. This year I kept up with one of my good friends who work with Chick-fil-A and he told me they needed some extra help out there. I chose to do this event because it seemed like it would be a fun way to hang out with kids, and help Chick-fil-A in any way I can. I enjoy hanging out with kids so I knew I would enjoy this event. I got to dress up, get my face painted, and hang out with kids for four hours.
The experience that has given me the biggest sense of ‘Firebird Pride’ is my time in National Honor Society. I truly enjoy giving back to the community and school that has given me so much. Through working with students my own age to senior citizens to citizens of Dayton in homeless shelters, I have realized how blessed I am to have all of the opportunities that have arisen during my high school career. I am a stronger leader, a better community member, and a more patient and understanding person because of the service I have provided throughout my time in NHS. Through the tutoring hours put into this group, I have formed bonds with students I never would have otherwise been around and the relationships with these kids and their parents have made me feel like I have had my own impact on the community.

When Mrs. Howell called on students to answer her questions, she stated their first name every time and used positive feedback after each answer. These techniques demonstrated an environment of respect and rapport. She also allowed each student to share their idea or response every time she asked for an answer or response. I noticed that Mrs. Howell ensured that communication between her and her students were clear and accurate by restating questions that were confusing to some students. She would break down questions and answers to make them more
All teams within the college are working towards the same goal which is based around the student experience. It is therefore important that we work together to come to the same result. Taking the time to personally go to a department to see someone can be beneficial as it builds relations. It is vital that we have a positive relationship with our customers. Ways we can ensure standards stay high include providing excellent customer service, retaining good levels of communication, keeping them informed at all times, offer information in a professional manner, treating customers with a positive attitude and responding to customer feedback.
All students’ interests, strengths, and cultural backgrounds are welcomed and valued. I treat all students equitably and interact and communicate with them to make them feel cared for, listened to, and respected. My efforts to respond to all student questions and to remain patient and calm contribute to my comforting, welcoming classroom environment. At the beginning of the year, I communicate my rules and expectations clearly and directly. I require students and their parents to sign a contract stating that they have read and understand my behavioral and academic expectations and consequences.
