The course of the war itself significantly affected the political and ideological relationship of the colonials to their mother country, inasmuch as the colonists found the British imposition of restrictions and its hierarchical army to be repulsive to liberty, while the British saw the need for greater imperial control. However, it was the economic aftermath of the war, which left Britain with a changing war debt and a need to raise new colonial revenues that militated most heavily against colonial cooperation with the British. The French and Indian War, called the Seven Years’ war in Europe, had its antecedents in the settlement of the French and the British in the Ohio valley region of the American continent. Both the French and British sought to control lands in the region, while the Native Americans resisted the attempts of both to settle. The Indians largely played off of both sides to maintain an uneasy balance of power, but one group eventually decided to great trading concessions to the British, giving England greater access to the interior of the continent.
As his subjects, we think that this brought our Church of England too close to Roman Catholic. Later, he attempted to force religious reform upon Scotland and that weakened England’s government and helped precipitate his downfall.
In Common Sense, Thomas Paine argues independence for America. He starts off with very general arguments about religion, government and then focus on specific situations and events in the colonies. Paine states that Britain doesn’t help Colonies to flourish. He argues that the Colonies do not gain much from being with Britain and should break free now. He provides many reasons such as Colonies’ size, capabilities, and relationships with the rest of Europe.
The only difference since 1999 is that England has seen an increase in migration due to joining the EU, Scotland believe that this is ruining the Scottish culture. The power of a separate government would allow Scotland to leave the EU as most of the migration is from England meaning they can restore their Scottish culture. The issue that is caused is the fact that their culture is at risk and that they believe their people are worse off due a non-separate government. This causes pressure on England to allow them to leave but England and the remaining of the UK see Scotland as a key asset to the United Kingdom. Another reason that causes separatists pressures are differences in religion, culture or language to surrounding areas, for example Basque.
By this Winthrop means that the populace of America, as well as the rest of the world, will be watching them. There would be many negative opinions as their controversial moves are very different from those of societies in the past and not what is expected of people under their current social rules and guidelines. He tells them that if their society succeeds they will show the entire world that they can attain religious freedom and escape the tyranny of the English crown. This part of the speech is arguably the most famous and served to be very true. The success of their colony leads not only other puritans to leave England but also people of other religions and backgrounds who were also fed up with the crown.
What is nativism? citizens who fear that large influxes of foreigners will corrupt American culture, undermine American democracy, and impoverish American workers. 3. How does Thomas Bailey Aldrich's poem "Unguarded Gates" represent a strain of American thought? Aldrich's poem may strike modern readers as embarrassingly xenophobic, if not downright racist.
Womens rights reformations were also called, due to the fact that women had very little rights, and were certainly not considered equal to men. Finally, institutional reformations were demanded to reconstruct more suitable institutions for citizens, to replace the rather vulgar structures they were accomodated to. Therefore, it is indeed valid to conclude that reform movements in the U.S. sought to expand democratic ideals. During the early decades of the 19th century, the Second Great Awakening struck. A hurricane of religious revivals swept through the United States, mostly to counteract the rationalistic ideas of early Calvinists, who believed only a select few could be saved.
Christianity for example has many different types of people like Catholics, Protestants among others. I find it interesting how there are similarities among different religions but most of the time they only see their differences in order to condemn each other and prove they are the only “right” one. Christianity caught my attention because as Stearns says how coverts brought religion, the Latin writing system, and different artistic and intellectual instruments associated with Roman Christianity. Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism are major religions around the world and millions of people practice them. An important factor for Christianity to be known around the world was the connection that Europe had with the Americas.
Others who do support the efforts for equality are often forced side with the religious right for fear of the repercussions that such a solid, motivated power base can bring to bear. The religious right has been successful in creating the illusion that they represent the majority of Americans, and as such create an environment that makes standing up for the rights of oppressed groups deemed to be deviant, a significant social risk. The success of the religious right at fragmenting the much larger moderate portion of the country has effectively isolated minorities, such as LGTB communities, forcing them to fight for rights that the true majority of the country actually supports. The religious right has essentially neutralized the voting public making social reform
