Case Analysis: Samsung Electronics Company Profile Samsung, comprised of more than 78 different companies and affiliated in a wide range of businesses from technology, semiconductors, plant construction, petrochemicals, finance, hotels, fashion, medicine, and more, was founded in 1938 by Byung-Chull Lee in Taegu, Korea. Mr. Lee started his business as a trade export, selling dried Korean fish, vegetables, and fruit to Manchurian and Beijing. In little over a decade Samsung began expanding its product line as business grew. Today Samsung’s flagship company, Samsung Electronics based in Suwon, South Korea, leads the global market in high-tech electronics manufacturing and digital media. Samsung develop products that contribute to a better world. Statement of Facts Electronic products for Samsung include refrigerators, televisions, vacuum cleaners, and more. Its smartphones and tablets are more popular items. Samsung is the maker of the Galaxy smartphones, while it biggest competitor Apple is the front-running electronics firm of the iPhone and iPad. On March 13, 2013 Samsung released its fourth-generation Galaxy S smartphone hoping to strengthen its software capabilities to better compete with Apple. Other companies however, are still struggling to come up with a competitive phone to compete with Apple. Samsung has a reputation of being a fast follower. Samsung is skilled in manufacturing and it produces components for other firms including Sony, HP, and even Apple. Being a manufacturer to companies in the electronic market has allowed Samsung to develop and improve its own products, and sustain a competitive advantage and even beat its competition. However, this has led to Apple claiming that Samsung is copying them and stealing their ideas. Apple is battling Samsung in courts over infringements of its patents.
