A lot of people in the world don’t like who they are or what they’ve become for many reasons such as: looks, weight, personality, family, job, etc. Whatever the reason may be few people in this world wouldn’t change a thing about themselves, I’m one of those people. I’ve learned to accept all my flaws and realize god made me his way for a reason. If I were to change anything about myself, even the
Welfare is a common part of our world today; both in the present and past. It is a very useful resource for those who are struggling and need it the most. Those who take this system for granted are the reasons why I disagree with the assistance all together. What I mean by this is that there are teen mothers out there who are capable of getting a full time job and work but instead they depend on the government. They waste the money provided by tax payers like me, using up all the funds for an act they could have prevented.
The narrator stepped forward many times to take responsibility for his life but each time his parents influence changed his actions. For example, the father was in need of help on "the boat" and the narrator stepped into help. When he knew this was not enough he decided he was to quite school and to fish full time with his father. The father then told him he would "go back tomorrow." (Page 272) He returned to school the following morning.
His argument has a lot of people from different backgrounds and perspectives reading it. To start, the title, “What’s Wrong With Vocational School?” offers a different perspective in and of itself; for many traditional American middle-class families, vocational school is simply never considered. In some way, this makes his bold writing style more impressive because of the potential risk he is taking. The supposed risk, however, is in the perspective of each reader. If one views it as Murray’s support of the less talented, or less affluent, then he seems very democratic and generous.
I will be looking at sources to see if this was true. Source 1 states that this may be true for some people but not others. It was good for businessmen, speculators, retiring company directors. For them the source agrees that they never had it so good. However the source goes on to criticise the statement saying that it isn’t good for “widowed mother with children, the chronic sick, 400,000 unemployed and millions of pensioners without pensions.” Therefore I can infer that the source doesn’t agree with the statement as it states that there is a clear majority of people who don’t benefit within this time period, mainly the people who are benefitting are from the upper classes.
However, there is one rule that Washington writes that is important and that many people today have lost knowledge in which is that “every action done in company, ought to be with some sign of respect, to those that are present”. and that is his first and most valuable rule. Treating others with respect is something that has been lost in many people today. First, people do not know how to respect others, especially due to the technology that many have access to. The younger generation of many teens and children have lack
I see the effects that poverty has on many people every day, and always think one day that could be me. Many people every day have to go without certain things people take for granted. Hopefully, the government will step in and put programs into place to re-declare the war on poverty and put an end to poverty for many individuals. If the government does not step in to help by putting programs into place what will happen to the many people who are on the verge of being poverty stricken? Many people are only 1 paycheck away from being considered low income and fewer and fewer people are being considered middle class.
This is a form of affirmative action that mostly White males benefited from because most people of color could not afford to go to college, which made their deferment a lot less likely. It is also surprising how no one complained about this form of affirmative action, or when bankers, farmers, or White men of power receive these incentives and it is often looked at as an entitlement. Yet the moment that incentives were expanded to be given to colored citizens and women there was uproar of criticism. It is also ironic that some of the same people who benefited from college deferment or social engineering have a problem when a minority receives any form of competitive advantage. How can judges in the Supreme Court be opposed to affirmative action, when there is not a single judge in that group who have not benefited from some sort of affirmative action?
Without the TANF program to provide help for these families the poverty rate would rise continuously. The welfare programs from analysts believe several factors have contributed to the decline, including an improved economy, tougher work requirements and diversion. Strategists that have moved applicants directly to work programs (Almanac, 20010). However, in my opinion I would say that welfare is not checked often enough and it should be more often. People who are on welfare tend to play the system because they know they can get away with it and take advantage, because the welfare office does not check like they should.
Although not everyone can fully relate to the story, it makes people reflect on today’s society and see the prejudice toward the poor and how they are manipulated from the rich. It also shows how money can make people become selfish. Money can stimulates a person’s materialistic side and once one becomes rich, he also becomes ignorant and loses his human instincts such as love and helpfulness. As a result makes the less fortunate feel worthless. This is shown when the boss gives the governess eleven rubles for her two months worth of work.
