From a parent of a Head Start student to a teacher of the Head Start program I can clearly say that Head Start has made a difference in my family life. I also talk to other parents who have children in Head Start and the program help their family. Head Start is truly a wonderful program that every young child needs to attend. Head Start believes learning
As of today, most states, (forty-three states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity), have voluntarily adopted these standards. The new standards also provide a way for teachers to measure student progress throughout the school year and ensure that students are on the pathway to success in their academic careers. Educational standards are the learning goals for what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. Educational standards help teachers ensure their students have the skills and
So, as I meet and greet every student by name each morning they are entering the Mrs. Freeman’s Happy Zone. This makes them feel special and lets them know I am happy they are there for the day. Students know from the very beginning of the year that only positive actions and learning occur in my classroom. There are numerous positive rewards offered in my classroom to encourage active learning. For example, I use a money system where I reward students for correct answers or participation.
All students’ interests, strengths, and cultural backgrounds are welcomed and valued. I treat all students equitably and interact and communicate with them to make them feel cared for, listened to, and respected. My efforts to respond to all student questions and to remain patient and calm contribute to my comforting, welcoming classroom environment. At the beginning of the year, I communicate my rules and expectations clearly and directly. I require students and their parents to sign a contract stating that they have read and understand my behavioral and academic expectations and consequences.
Through this program, teachers return to their school with more knowledge, determination, and commitment to change their students' lives. Freedom Writers Foundation Website, an article titled “About the Scholarship Program”, noted, “The Freedom Writers Foundation awards scholarships each year to first-generation high school seniors and college students who have demonstrated remarkable academic promise despite considerable odds.” This program supports students in many ways. By providing the students a scholarship, they continue to learn and they have a shot at becoming what they want. Students through this program also receive support to earn a degree from college. Erin has inspired many teachers, students, and everyday people through this foundation.
When examining the relationship between Philosophy and curriculum an educator will understand that Philosophy is one of the foundations of education. An educational philosophy is the approach to education. It incorporates the values and ideals that we want to accomplish. The curriculum is the diagram that encompasses the philosophy into the objectives of the lessons. In today’s world educators worry about lacking basic skills in Reading and Mathematics that our students are having and focus more on modern technology and having our students think out of the box.
OBSERVATION OF A COUNSELLING ENCOUNTER Introduction The counselling context that I refer to in this assignment takes place in a local primary school. It is a formalised activity called the “CARE CIRCLE” and is employed in the classrooms on a regular basis. Engagement with the group While preparing for this assignment, the first opportunity to observe an authentic counselling encounter that sprang to mind was an initiative that has been implemented in the school that my children attend. It is referred to as a “CARE CIRCLE” and is designed to provide children with a safe environment in which to share their feelings and acknowledge each other. I have had the opportunity to witness this activity on a number of occasions while I have been in the classroom to assist the teachers.

The importance of partnership with parents During the course of this essay I will discuss how parents’ involvement in my setting can be reflected into my workshop plan, and how this should include aspects of parental feedback on daily activities. I will also reflect on the how I engage with parents of children under my care as an early year’s practitioner in accordance with Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS, 2012). As an early year’s practitioner, I provide a welcoming and accepting environment for children and their families (DCSF, 2008) where the display of successful communication with parents is essential to further support the development of children. The importance of parental role in their child’s learning was recently highlighted by the department for education (2012a), which stated that ‘informing’, ‘reporting ’ and `discussing’ children’s progress with parents and the next step of their child development is of key importance in a child’s learning process. This point has been supported by evidence derived from numerous publications, which suggest that parents generally know their child the best, and are the main educator in the child’s life (Essa, 2007).
