If we needed Average daily Attendance to determine what would or should be the proper funds attendance rates would lower the funds that would be allotted to my school and schools overall. We cannot control the attendance of others we can only encourage great attendance. The school districts that service and educate a large number of students are given more money because it is divided on a particular amount of money, or funds per student. American teachers don’t earn as much money as business professionals and teachers in other countries such as Japan, Canada, and Germany. If society really cared about education, then teachers would be getting paid as much as lawyers, doctors, and accountants. Society is making it seem that educating young children in school is not that important. In other words, school teachers aren’t important. Barber argues that society is not serious about American education (The McGraw-Hill Reader, 153-162).
The schools are generally over crowded with few good teachers. When there's a great public school there is not enough space for every child in the neighborhood. Children are stuck in low achieving schools because of how the school districts are divided. A lot of children end up in poor public schools because their parents do not possess the income that it takes to send them to a private school. Since 1971 education cost has increased from $4,300 to more than $9,000 per student.
By not allowing them to further their education causes the resources that these kids are being provided with to go to waste. “Most immigrant families have a positive net fiscal impact on the United States, adding $88,000 more in tax revenues than they consume in services” (Kane and Johnson 31). We have invested time and money into these students, and they acquire the dream of being able to achieve upward mobility in order to break the downward mobility cycles. Many of these students have been striving in school and have taken the right paths, only to be impeded from achieving a higher education. This is an issue that we need address and fix in order for the State of Oregon to successfully combat the recession that we are currently facing.
Bourdieu shows how both factors link together to produce class inequalities in achievement using the cultural capital theory. The argument is that middle class pupils are more successful than working class pupils because their parents possess more ‘capital’. This capital comes in two forms i.e. wealth and values. The middle class use their greater economic capital to provide their children with an advantage, thus reproducing the advantages of the middle class from generation to generation and so there will always be a significant difference in educational achievement, with middle class children exceeding working class children with regard to educational achievement.
The statics show that more money is put into public education in the wealthier areas. These tend to be white neighborhoods. Incomes are higher thus house prices are higher thus taxes are higher and the money put into education is higher. Latinos and Black families tend to be larger and rely on less income than those earned by White families. Latinos and Black works tend to have to work more than one job to make ends meet.
Living in Harrison and hanging out all over Westchester you see that there is a lot of money going around. Being said this creates a better environment for everyone who attends the school. Especially with the greater wealth around the campus this creates a better campus with higher paid teachers and better technology resources than other schools. The third reason why community colleges are very beneficial is that it creates opportunities for people who are less financially sound. Coming from my own home my parents didn’t have enough money to put me through a big time college right now and rather than spending fifty thousand a year I’m only spending about two thousand.
Should I Stay or Should I Go? A State-run Teacher Training College, unlike its private counterparts, is funded by the state. Nearly 90 percent of their funding comes from the state. Since the creation of state-run colleges and private colleges, there has always been a doubt inside students’ minds to whether they should attend to a private one because their courses are known to be “easier” or if they should attend a state-run college because people believe they “learn more” and they will be better professionals.
