kevin king Eng 111-18 Dr. Crosby Compare/Contrast Same city, Different World Throughout my life, I have only moved houses a handful of times. However, the times I did move were a drastic change. In February of 2009, I moved from Zone 1 of Moreno Valley, California, to Zone 4; this was probably the most drastic move I have made. These were two different neighborhoods in Moreno Valley, California, but they were entirely different worlds. Although these two neighborhoods were in fact part of the same city limits, Zone 1 and Zone 4 are significantly different when it comes to safety and image. Zone 1, which is also referred to as Uptown, and Zone 4, or the Southside, are both subdivisions in the city of Moreno Valley, California. Both of these neighborhoods are governed by the same people and fall under the same jurisdiction as one another. Laws are set and enforced in Uptown, just as they are on The Southside. Everyone that lives in either Zone 1 or Zone 4 is expected to abide by the same laws and follow the city’s motto, “People, Pride, Progress.” Both sides of Moreno Valley share the same ten principles that have been set in the city’s mission statement; Maintain, promote, enhance, bring, build, foster, respect, advocate, exemplify, and cultivate. However, the way these two different neighborhoods seem to interpret these values differs greatly. Despite the similarities these two neighborhoods share, they also have their differences. When it comes to the safety of these two places, there are huge differences amongst the two Zones. For example, Zone 1 is a safe, welcoming, family oriented environment. Zone 1 is home to all of the city’s recreational centers, malls, and community centers in Moreno Valley. Uptown is the kind of neighborhood city officials would want to represent their city.
