Sagging Pants (Outline) I. Introduction A. Attention Getter: Video of remixed song, Pants on the Ground, by Larry Platt (Soulja,2010). B. Audience relation: Most college students have experience seeing someone in sagging pants. Everyone has seen someone walking around campus with their underwear showing. Most agree that it is not something they would like to see. C. Credibility: Mostly, from my experience wearing sagging pants in trial and in research. I have found that people respect and identify with you when you are dressed specific attire. D. Central Idea: Sagging pants, and how guys walk around with their under pants showing are a pop culture fads I understand, but let’s have some sort of pride in ourselves. Most young in today’s society have never even been in public in a suit to experience the advantage or disadvantage of doing so. In my experience, there is a certain difference when I’m dressed with the intentions of making my present felt or for the purpose of being taking serious. Transition: First of all let me make everyone understands that I’m not trying to say people who wear sagging pants are lesser individuals. By no means am I trying to say they are irresponsible or incompetent. A. Main Idea 1: I think it’s a conflict between casual and professional dress. To say that people who prefer comfort are irresponsible would be wrong in fact. Researchers have long been interested in how a person’s appearance can affect other people’s behavior towards that person. Bickman (1974) found that people are more compliant when dealing with an authority figure, and Bushman (1984, 1988) found that participants were quicker and more likely to comply with someone whose dress was perceived as authoritative.
