Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people. Understand the main legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding children and young people. The Children Act 1989 was set up for the sole purpose of supporting children and vulnerable adults from any harm or abuse. It was implemented in October 1991 and introduced specific changes to Legislation in England and Wales affecting the welfare of children. The main aims of this Act: Legislates to protect children who may be suffering or are likely to suffer significant harm. Provides for support from local authorities, in particular for families whose children are in need. Local and national approaches for safeguarding children and young people would be The Every Child Matters Framework. “The Every Child Matters Framework has brought to the forefront the importance of keeping children safe and healthy and having the awareness of different ways in which as professionals, we should work together to do this.” (The Teaching Assistant Handbook) The Act aims to improve effective local working together to safeguard and promote children’s wellbeing by implementing the every child matters outcomes for children/young people. Below is a brief summary of: The Health and safety at Work Act 1974 that is used at Cylch meithryn. The governors of Cylch meithryn recognize their corporate responsibility to provide a safe and healthy environment for all people who come into the school premises.
