Going against his orders from Sgt. Bradley Larson, Carter ran through a hail of bullets to retrieve Mace and get him back to the Humvee for treatment. That is one part of the Warrior Ethos, “I will never leave a fallen comrade”. Going against his orders, he risked his own life to be able to save a fellow comrade. With intense fighting for 12 hours, their ammo dwindling, and unable to communicate with anyone, they still kept fighting they had the opportunity to get to a radio to call for support.
And both of them were screaming out there and I thought to myself you know I wanted to go out there and help them, but I knew if I did I'd get shot. So I just laid there and I'd say within 3 or 4 minutes both of them died” (Stories). These type of frightening events happened at any second throughout D-Day. Every soldier would just lay quietly and pray they would stay alive. The soldiers were courageous men who put themselves in a great amount of danger just for freedom from Germany.
Three children died instantly and over a dozen were critically injured. Willie’s prophecy on time being the steward of the truth proves to be beneficial for him. “Oh, God, I am punished for accepting iniquity and voting against an honest man!” cries one of the parents who lost his child (65). In Mr. Sandeen’s (the father who lost his child) statement, Warren exhibits another phenomenon in the South that might have sustained just as much if not more momentum than politics – this phenomenon is religion. Surreptitiously but not blatantly, Warren provides his audience with the experience of watching a typical Southern citizen in reaction to a tragic event.
Many Marines have given up their lives in order to protect one another and defeat the enemy. This story teaches today’s Marines how to fight like Marines as well as why this service holds so many honors. The never say die attitude of every man on that hill is proof why the Marines are America’s elite, because they can take every hardship that God and the world can throw at them and still never give up. The Marines in this book are the kind of fighters we should all try to be. Courage is one of the main traits than shows the most throughout this story.

The best an account of war can hope to accomplish is to remind readers that you can’t ever really wrap your mind around what it’s like for those on the ground, because you can never know or really get it until you live it. And Kyle hits his mark there. Time and time again, they were in dangerous situations, and all I could think with each page of battle was that it all seemed unreal, like a movie. And that thought was quickly followed by the realization that everything was very real, and I just couldn’t fully comprehend a reality like that. I don’t imagine that most people want to know what a single firefight is like, yet these men actively hoped for these situations so they could take down evil.
With firefights, life and death situations, and the mourning of their fellow soldiers, Restrepo showed that when it comes to war, even when we win, everyone still loses. At war, winning is the main goal. Defeating the opposing side and fighting for your country is what soldiers sign up to do. However, even when the soldiers accomplish their goal, and survive the war, a part of them still dies. They will never be the same person they were before they left for war because what they see, experience and feel will change them no matter how tough they are.

Words that changed my life forever. Just like a character Finley Sinclair in the book, There You’ll Find Me. Finley Sinclair’s brother has died while he was in Afghanistan when he was build schools for children.
