Rules Were Meant To Be Broken… As Vista Del Lago students we are expected to follow all school rules. We even must sign a contract at the beginning of every school year saying we agree to the rules. That being said, obviously we, as students, could care less about the dress code rules that they try to enforce. Many of us feel that if it’s hot, why shouldn’t we be allowed to wear slightly more revealing clothing, such as tank tops, skirts, and shorts? While we are allowed to wear several of the aforementioned items, there are limits. Except, they have a zero tolerance policy for tank tops on male students. While female students are simply asked to cover up, us, as men, are humiliated in front of our peers, dragged up to the main office, and forced to wear disgusting random clothes that are in the lost and found for the rest of the day. We must deal with the constant nagging of office secretaries’ feeding us the same line they use on every male student that walks in the office for being caught with dress code: “Now sweetie, you’ve been here for how long? You should know the rules by now”. We roll our eyes in torment while our eyes dart back in forth wanting the trip to the dully grey painted office to be over. Never has there been a time where a student has wanted to return back to class so quickly. However, knowing what may happen if we get caught, we still defy the system in hopes of going the entire day without getting caught and enduring a trip, to the horror known as “The Main Office”. Edwards2 I stepped out my door early that morning, knowing that it would be a rather hot afternoon; I decided to break out my brand new tank top. It was dark blue with small grey lines from top to bottom, no more than an inch long each, with light beige cargo shorts, long black socks, and my newest pair of shoes.
