Romeo and Juliet Discuss the relationships between parents and children in Romeo and Juliet. How do Romeo and Juliet interact with their parents? Are they rebellious, in the modern sense? How do their parents feel about them? The way parents and their children interacted in the Elizabethan time was very different then now a days; back then there were servants to call upon their children, the servants would take care of the children and therefor the kids would often have a better and stronger relationship with their servants than with their actual parents. This was the case with Juliet and her family, she spend more time with her servant since her own mother did not pay much attention to her. At the beginning of the book Juliet´s mother: Lady Capulet is not very caring towards Juliet, this is why the relationship between the two is not very strong. “Nurse, where´s my daughter? Montague. At the beginning of the book Mr. Montague and Benvolio talk about Romeo. His father explains how Romeo keeps his distance when talking about his love life. “ But he, his own affections’ counsellor, is to himself (I will not say how true) But to himself so secret and so close, So far from sounding and discovery” This quote demonstrates how personal, and sensitive Romeo is and how his relationship is towards his father; this quote proves that Romeo doesn’t trust his father as much as he trusts his best friends. He talks to his bestfriend such as Benvolio, about all of his problems but yet his relationship with his father is too weak and not trust worthy enough to talk about his love life and his problems whatsoever.
