Garrett Richelieu In the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare. The Friar and Nurse played major roles through out the play on giving Romeo and Juliet advice. The Nurse advised Romeo in act 2 and Juliet in act 1 about Paris and what type of man he is. Also, the Friar advised Romeo in act 3 about how he should not rush into relationships so fast. And Juliet in act 4 about not going to see Romeo it would be bad between there families if she went to see Romeo. Now you will see the roles each one of these amazing characters played. First of all, through out the play the Nurse was always giving Juliet and Romeo advice. In this quote, the Nurse will explain to Juliet what type of a man Paris is. “A man, Young lady! Lady, such a man as all the world-Why, he’s a man of wax Shakespeare 642”. This quote by the Nurse is a metaphor because the Nurse is telling Juliet that Paris is a nice handsome young man. But Juliet did not take her advice and chased Romeo. As well, the Nurse also gave advice to Romeo. The Nurse explains here how Paris is not the man for Juliet. He is not her true love. “O, there is a nobleman in town, one Paris, that would fain lay knife aboard; but she, good soul, had as lieve see a toad, as see him Shakespeare 691”. This is a metaphor because the Nurse is comparing Paris to a toad to show how Juliet is not attracted to Paris. Romeo toke the Nurses advice and chased Juliet. Like the Nurse, the Friar played an important role in the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Here the Friar tells Juliet She should not see Romeo because it may spark something between the to families the Montague’s and Capulet’s. “Each part, depriv’d of supple government shall, stiff and stark and cold, appear like death; Shakespeare 711” This simile offended Juliet and she did not take the Friars advise and continued to see Romeo.
