Roman Implements of Positive Inventions Prof. Hentzel HIS 103 Rian Ranzen October 14, 2012 Roman Implements of Positive Inventions The Roman Empire is an extremely complex and difficult civilization to define and assess because of the immense history and characteristics behind all the centuries that make up the realm. Rome was founded in 753 B.C by Romulus and Remus who were descendants of Aeneas, a vanquished great warrior and Trojan Hero. Through the 2nd century A.D., Rome was at its height with a population of about 60 million people spread across two million square miles. The Mediterranean Sea was like an internal lake for them, the empire completely encircled from Northern England to the plains of the North African coast and the flourishing valley of the Nile River located in Egypt. Without a doubt, the Roman citizens have accomplished many innovative things during the progression of their long-established history. In the second millennium, several waves of Northern invaders entered Italy and occupied the rich Po Valley located in the North and the fertile Western slopes along the Mediterranean coast. The Romans were highly influenced by the Etruscan Civilization who dominated the empire for 200 years. Nobody knows how the Etruscans came and established themselves. It is hard to determine exactly when the history of the Etruscans started; however many historians have agreed on the period between the tenth to the eleventh centuries BC for their time of civilization.
