Roles within a School Roles of a School Governor: * Monitoring and setting the school’s aims and policies. * To ensure clarity of vision and ethos. * To hold the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff. * To supervise the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent. * The appointing and dismissing of staff. * Considering appeals and grievances. * Creating policy’s on the school's curriculum. * Setting standards for pupil’s behaviour and discipline. Roles of a Head Teacher: * Provide vision, leadership and direction to the staff, students and other stakeholders. * Promote excellence, equality and high expectations for all students. * Ensure the best outcomes for students both in terms of attainment and progress. * Effectively manage learning and teaching. * Deploy all resources, including staff and financial resources to achieve the school’s aims and provide regular reports to the Governors on the performance of the school. * Build a productive and safe learning environment which is engaging and fulfilling for all students. * Evaluate school performance and identify priorities for continuous improvement. * Obtain an effective day to day management, organisation and administration. Roles of a Deputy Head Teacher: * To take full accountability for leading and managing significant aspects of the school, under the general direction of the Head teacher. * To support the Head teacher in the leadership and management of the school and in all aspects of school improvement, including taking full responsibility for the school in the absence of the Head teacher. * To lead and manage; staff, teaching and learning, student progress, student welfare and strategic planning
