Roles and Functions of a Manager The role of a manager in a healthcare organization is very important to carry out the daily duties of that organization to ensure a healthy work environment and all policies and procedures are carried out correctly. A manager is defined as anyone in an organization who supports and is responsible for the work performance of one or more persons. This may include a variety of titles such as supervisors, team leaders, administrator or vice president. The most important function of a healthcare manager is to make sure that all employees and healthcare workers are following all policies and procedures. Not only to protect the patient but to protect themselves from any negligence. Managers should encourage safe practice so that daily activities become a routine instead of a nuisance. The most important role of a healthcare manager should be a team leader and motivator. Having a manager that keeps the staff motivated during a hectic day will make the day go by that much faster. Team leaders are important because it gives direction for those involved. Having direction in a team-oriented environment allows people to work together easily towards the same goal. Managers are looked upon from their subordinates and their managers, almost like the middle man. They are there to mobilize people and resources to accomplish the work of organizations, but to share the responsibility with people they report to and people that report to them. Managers accomplish goals by planning, controlling use of resources, organizing, leading and influencing. Many responsibilities come down on the role of a manager because they have to control expenses such as materials, payroll and inventory. They must plan and schedule meetings and work schedules, recruit, train and develop team members, and coordinate and have the support of those team members. One of
