The public opinion has taken its own course. With people so easily influenced, it is to change their thoughts in another direction. The media has a major control over our lives, especially in the presidential campaign. The four major items of impact are: television, newspapers, radio, and magazines. The media presents people with the political information necessary for choosing a President.
Today’s media, be it in print, on the television, internet, or talk radio, plays a major role in the American political system. The media is owned by several companies and is out to make a profit. Some of these large companies are CNN, FOX, NBC, various talk radio programs, and popular items in print from Newsweek, The New York Times, The Washington Post, etc. These media outlets are all influenced by many sources, as are our top political figures. It seems the media is growing more powerful with time which is, in my opinion, both good and bad.
People hand wrote letters and set them by post to communicate before media convergence. Presently the communication available consists of emailing, text messaging, and video chatting. We have changed to suit media convergence and utilize it in daily life. Instead of needing to watch TV or read a magazine to learn the day's events, a person can go to the TV station's website and get headlines in real time. Places of employment have also changed to suit this new undulating motion of technology and the conjunction of mass media.
While doing any type of writings, there are many different styles that the writer can use to get his or her point across. Depending on the situation at hand, the style will change accordingly. There is personal writings, where the writer will bring out his or her emotions and feelings, and then there is a more business type of writing, which will be a little more serious and written to many people rather than just a few. In this past project in English 101, we had to explore both styles of writing, both personal and professional. We first had to write a letter, this was a personal letter to someone close to us like a mother or father.
Journalists have agency, and therefore make choices as how they will report their events. They choose how to use the power that they are given. In both the Selma March and the reporting of the Vietnam War, agency plays a role in showing how these reporters obtained their news, and how they presented it. II. Distinction between the two cases A.
I have learned how to evaluate these sources effectively in order for them to support my work. Knowing the motive behind the page and its information will help me judge the credibility of its content in the future. I now know how important it is to use the same evaluation techniques for internet sources as I would for a book or journal article. I have discovered the importance of acknowledging the work of others, and now have a clear understanding of how an online source is used, whether it be scholarly or non scholarly. I now have more confidence in terms of using online literature as a part of an assessment.
He also discusses what it takes to be a good leader. To begin the meetings, one must first get the meetings going – get the staff involved by using methods to motivate staff members to come and participate in the meetings. He also suggests “drawing from a large collection of journal articles and picking out pieces that would be of interest to the staff” (Spittle, p. 32). Keeping a positive attitude during these meetings is also very important. He also suggests “having an open communication meeting where the staff themselves run it.
It will also let us track what social platforms are being used the most, therefore enabling us to tailor our deals to our consumers. Recommendation: Have a dedicated employee (or employees) monitor Twitter and Facebook feed. They should be able to quickly respond to concerns our consumers have, as well as be personable and friendly. We would like the social media employees to be an extension of the brand, building trust with our consumer. Recommendation: Tailor a Pinterest Board to draw consumers in and extend our market.
Communication is the key. My group, in time, will interview the members of the community, and the article “Gathering Data in the Field” will be valuable information to keep in mind. It is important for us to see that “conducting a rich, informative interview requires strong questioning and listening skills as well as finely honed observation skills” (pg.116). If we plan on making a difference in the Tzunania community, we should make sure that we are well-rounded interviewers. In order to understand someone you have to see that person’s perspective and when trying to interview one person or a large group of people, that can only be done if the interview is in-depth.
Good morning/afternoon, my name is Chloe. Today I will be discussing how the media portray the issue of asylum seekers and refugees. Many persuasive devices and techniques such as statistics, use of pictures and images, cause and effect, fact and opinion and emotive language have all been used in many of the articles I have analysed and annotated. A majority of journalists use these persuasive devices and techniques to ‘push’ the readers to accept their points of view. The use of statistics is common in articles.
