ASPIRE Role models usually come at different point in people’s life. Earlier in life, one may consider their parents as their fundamental role models. But as we learn to explore the world, we interact with other people and meet some that will inspire us. In my opinion, having a role model shows what people aspire in a given point of their lives. I can describe my role model as one who has the passion to pursue one’s dream, has the ability to inspire others, and a fearless attitude towards overcoming obstacles. My role model is my teammate, coach, and friend Ms. Charo Soriano or commonly called Ate Cha. I met her when I entered and joined the Ateneo Women’s Volleyball team. Aside from being the top volleyball player of her time in Ateneo, she is able to gracefully juggle her academics and sports. In her 5th playing year, she took up her Master in Business Administration in the Ateneo Graduate School of Business and graduated last 2010. Now she works with Beverly Hill 6750 as the Officer in Charge. Given all these accomplishments it’s her charismatic personality that is really infectious. What makes her so inspiring is her passion for playing volleyball and the commitment that she shows to her team. Although I wasn’t able reach her batch in the UAAP, I was lucky enough to experience playing with her in the Shakey’s V-league when she was our guest player. It was a memorable experience since I could really feel her leadership inside the court. There’s no down moment for her inside the court. She played so well each game that she was able to lead the team to one victory to another. I could say that she was really a charismatic leader wherein with just one motivational speech she can easily boost the morale of her teammates.
