Ovarian Cyst is a condition that affects women of all ages. They occur most often, however during a woman’s child bearing years. An ovarian cyst is basically a collection of fluid surrounded by a thin wall within an ovary, if the size of the ovary follicle becomes larger than two centimeters; it is termed as an ovarian cyst. Traditionally, the choices for removal (hysterectomy, D&C) were ones that carried serious side effects, including but not limited to scarred tissue, damage to the cervix and even infertility; but new technology has come along that offer an alternative to traditional methods of surgery. The “Da Vinci” Robotic surgery is a new standard for a board range of gynecologic surgery including ovarian cyst removal. This method has shown to be less invasive and most effective. In addition, the “Da Vinci” surgery has potential benefits including: less scarring, significantly less pain, shorter hospital stay, faster return to normal activities and overall fewer complications. Many of patients nationwide have to this procedure to be beneficial. Surgeons have come to find this procedure as a “god sent” when compared to traditional methods. The robotic assisted surgery is able to provide such ease due to its simplicity. The surgery only requires a few small incisions, no wider than a fingertip, where then a pencil-sized camera is inserted in order to provide a magnified 3-d image of the surgical site. The surgeons’ uses hand control to guide the robots four arms, this aids in preventing limited movement allowing the surgeon to articulate instruments in a rotation of 360 degrees.
