Demiree Fultz ENG 101 Mrs. Forbes 18 Nov 2012 River Crab vs. Red Pepper North From seafood, burgers and pasta, to Ethnic cultured foods, everyone loves to go out and eat at a restaurant for a nice meal. When choosing a place to eat, people usually compare different restaurants in order to make a decision. As a waitress, I realize how much of a difference there is between many restaurants. For example, the River Crab restaurant, located in St. Clair, and Red Pepper North restaurant, located in Port Huron, have similarities yet more differences. When examining the River Crab and Red Pepper North, one can see that each restaurants working conditions and quality differs in many ways. These two factors are often overlooked, but they are important when compared. First, the working conditions are very diverse from one another at each restaurant. Factors such as apparel, shifts and duties differ between The River Crab and Red Pepper North. River Crab employees have a very strict dress code. Attire such as black dress pants, a black long sleeved dress shirt, long black apron and black non-slip shoes are mandatory and have to be worn at all times while waiting on tables. Flashy jewelry or face piercings are prohibited while at work. Red Pepper North employees do not have a strict dress code. The only mandatory clothing that the employees have to wear is a t-shirt with the “Red Pepper North” emblem on the back. Staff has the freedom to choose what type of bottoms they want to wear such as jeans or shorts. Employees at Red Pepper North are also allowed to wear any type of jewelry or shoes they wish. Along with apparel, both restaurants differ in shifts. River Crab employees are scheduled no less than twenty-five hours a week. Red Pepper North staff is scheduled at most twenty hours a week. At the River Crab no less than eight employees are on the floor at each shift
