What do you think about the controversy surround the different world concert and ritual dances that are becoming too commercialized? Do you think that it is appropriate for dances to change in order to please an audience? With the advance of technology in the past few years, dance and music have undergone noticeable changes. Many dances that were traditionally performed for ritualistic purposes have now been reformatted to pleasure audiences across the world. I feel that the world is changing too fast and unfortunately there is nothing we can do to prevent this rapid change from happening. Like they say “money makes the world go round”. If a dance company is offered millions of dollars to perform and attract large audience, the dance choreographers will most likely not hesitate to change a few dance steps to please the audience. In the shoes of a business person the audience is first. I’m kind of torn with what I feel. I wouldn’t want to see a Mexican dance such as folkloric changed just to please an audience in Australia. On the other hand I have to be conscious that a folkloric dance from Mexico probably would not be as profitable in Australia as it would be in the Placita Olvera in Downtown…show more content…
Baile Folklorico has its origin in Mexico. I have little memory since it was many years ago. I attended Washington Elementary in the city of Montebello, CA. We had an all-girl folklorico dance team. We danced in rows. We didn’t hold hands. Our movements were mainly focused on our feet and arms. Our costumes consisted of large skirts. We waved our skirts in the air as we danced. Our hair was braided and we also wore makeup. We performed inside the recreational center in Montebello. We danced for fun and never to compete. I didn’t handle pressure well as a child, therefore I didn’t continue dancing. Now I regret not continuing because baile folklorico is a beautiful dance full of tradition and
