Katy Chalich Summary Assignment, English 250 H. Brunner Valley of the Gun: Summary Assignment Hunting in 2015 is different than hunting in 1957. The first major difference being hunting in 2015 is mostly for sport, while hunting in 1957 was mostly for meat. The excerpt Valley of the Gun is told from the viewpoint of a young Joe Bageant, who happens to be on his first hunting trip with the men: Grandpap, Big Joe, Uncle Toad, and Uncle Nelson. Throughout this excerpt we learn many things like what it was like to be a kid in Virginia in 1957, and how hunting brought families together. “…already I had seen family history made,” is a fragment from the beginning of this story which really shows how hunting was a big deal in his family.
