Puberty in boys usually start later. At 12-16 years. The boys will be starting to go through puberty and many of the girls would be completing their puberty and having regular periods, as a result of the different stages of puberty, the boys and girls would vary in height. At this stage most girls are taller than boys and the young people will be growing stronger. At 16-19 years.
Because Arabella is now in the Fetus stage rapid changes were occurring throughout the following months Arabella mother felt her move for the first time at four months and it would feel like a punch and kick inside her mother’s stomach. The brain also becomes increasingly sophisticated during this stage, so now Arabellas brain can send messages to her body. Arabella can now also hear sound, her mother talks to her and lets her know that she can’t wait for her arrival. By the eighth month Arabellas mothers body was very tired and ready, Arabella is not 7 ½ lbs. (Feldman, 2001 p. 54) Arabella was full term, fully developed, and ready for birth, her mother’s body released the protein CRH which started the process of birth.
Evaluate the milestones and important influences of adolescence. The beginning of adolescence is often marked by the onset of puberty. Puberty is “the period during which an individual becomes physiologically capable of reproduction.” (Danesi, 1994, pp5-6) Puberty is therefore, in most cases, a major milestone for adolescents as it is mainly the defining factor of how the adolescent period begins. Clarke (1968, p53) mentions in his book that there are rare exceptions to puberty and adolescence occurring simultaneously. Clarke writes of Greulich “citing the case of a precocious girl who attained puberty at the age of three years and eleven months: at one year of age, her breasts were quite large; at three years and seven months, she menstruated.” Gabriel (1971, p298) explains this phenomenon as precocious puberty: “In exceptional cases, the restraining substances cease to function, and the releasing mechanism becomes prematurely active.
It can refer to life changing events such as birth, marriage, divorce, retirement and other events that an individual is likely to go through as they age. For example: an individual’s life course could be them graduating from university, getting married, having a baby and any other events that may occur during the course of their life. * Maturation: This is the process of something becoming mature or becoming fully developed. Most individual’s go through this process as they grow and become fully developed. For example; a girl may become fully developed much quicker than a boy.
Birth Control and Teenage Girls Teenage girls should be allowed to be able to receive birth control without the permission of their parents. Most people think that if a teen girl gets birth control, then she is giving her consent to having sex. This is not always the case. Numerous girls are raped on a daily basis, causing more and more children to be brought into this Earth. A child at such an early age can bring stress onto not only the girl, but to her family.
The rate of development is the speed of which a child develops but this can also vary a great deal in each child. For example one child may start walking unaided before their first birthday but another child may not start walking unaided until after their first birthday. It’s important to know the difference between the sequence and rate of development as it helps to meet the children’s individual needs. It helps you recognise if any children have special educational needs and helps you plan to make sure they are getting the help and support they may need.
(Baron, 1998, p. 343) During this period of adolescence development sexual hormones are increased, the boys start to produce sperm and the girls begin their menstrual periods. The start of puberty in adolescence varies in girls. Brenda C. Coleman asserts that most girls begin to menstruate by the time they are thirteen; but for some this process does not start until considerably later, and for others it may begin as early as age seven or eight. (Coleman, 1997) Boys affirms Baron (1998) begins to produce sperm by the time they are fourteen or fifteen; but again for some the process may start either earlier or later. (Baron, 1998) These physical changes in development of the adolescence can have dramatic impacts on the mental development of the adolescence as well.
At the beginning of Part II, Lee describes how Jem is at the onset of puberty. Calpurnia notices, commenting that ‘I just can’t help it if Mr Jem’s growin’ up.’ Her use of the present tense ‘growin’’ suggests that she knows that he, like Scout, is still in the process of understanding adult life. On the other hand, this can be interpreted more literally, in how Jem, in contrast to Scout, is going through early phases of puberty, and therefore growing rapidly. To deduce, the reader assumes that Calpurnia is referring to both. Later, however, during the day of the trial, Calpurnia adds ‘Mister Jem, I thought you was gettin’ some kinda head on your shoulders’ This is oxymoronic; by saying ‘Mister’ Jem, denotes that he has matured, but Calpurnia contradicts this idea by saying that she ‘thought’ he had ‘a head on his shoulders.’ The word ‘thought’ suggests that Calpurnia was previously mistaken
These factors have a great affect on today’s teen’s rites of passage; acquiring a license for boys and dating for a girl. During adolescence, teens begin to re-evaluate their self-identity. Emphasis on social virtues such as being friendly, cooperative or kind: these traits reflect a teen’s need for social acceptance. How they are viewed by others is a big change coming from childhood. The need to fit in and be accepted is greater when a child reaches adolescence.
Women may also experience psychological changes such as mood changes which could include depression, anxiety or tiredness and also insomnia. Hormones are also another physical aspect which changes as we get older. Hormones which usually change by decreasing as we get older are: ‘Aldosterone, calcitonin, growth hormone and renin. In women, estrogen and prolactin levels usually decrease significantly.’ These then cause older individual’s to experience changes such as additional hair growth on specific areas of their body.
