In fairness this isn’t because they have a problem with taking in information or recall but because they have been away from the learning (and resultant testing) environment. For some people who have been on our Managing Safely training it has been over 30 years since they last sat any type of exam. It helps if you know what you are entering into before you arrive at your assessment process. Your IOSH Managing Safely teacher should inform you that the assessment lasts for an hour. You may leave the assessment once you have finished but if you do leave you may not return, except that is if you need to go to the toilet. Your training provider should have provisions in place to enable people to go to the toilet and return to the assessment. It would of course be best to prepare by going to the toilet before the assessment starts. Even if there are arrangements in place to enable you to go to the toilet you will be interrupting your flow and you will reduce the amount of time available to you to complete the assessment. The paper consists of 22 ‘multi format’ questions. That means that some of the questions are multiple choice and some ask you to list answers. The first question on the paper is often a multiple choice question giving you 3 optional answers. Only one is correct. Other multiple choice questions normally consist of 6 options, 3 of which are correct. Take care. These multiple choice questions include ‘negative marking’. That means that for every answer you get correct you will get 1 point but for every answer that you get incorrect you
