Jasper Hennings is the president of Rio Grande Supply Company. He takes personal pride in the culture of his Texas based plumbing supply company and knows well that his top executives are largely responsible for determining the firm’s corporate culture. His management sets good examples by living by integrity, honesty, and respect for each individual employee. One day, Jasper found out that his hard working chief of operations, Henry Darger, had fired a female employee for accessing another worker’s email without any permission. There are policies and procedures in the company that does not allow employees to use the internet for personal use but only for business related activities. To make things more complicated, as the employee stormed out of the Henry’s office, she had made a comment that Henry was also in violation of the company policy for internet use. Turns out, Henry was using the internet to access pornographic sites. How should Jasper handle these turn of events? Jasper does not want to lose Henry but at the same time he wants to be fair and not treat him differently. Environmental Factors Which Helped Create Situation The environmental factors that helped Jasper Henning to face the described situation are the internal environmental factors or corporate culture that was instilled and set in place by him and his management team. It created a technological dimension of the office environment by means of having computers, internet, etc. Jasper himself had vetoed the idea of being able to access and review anything that employees created, stored, sent, or received on company equipment which has become the norm for most companies these days. Jasper also chose not to install any software or filters that would prevent any abuse of the corporate computer system.
