All children have the right to a varied and balanced education. This also must be supported by a high quality of teaching and learning experiences.

Understand the importance of promoting equality and diversity in work with children and young people 1.1 Identify the current legislation and codes of practice relevant to the promotion of equality and valuing of diversity At The Meadows Community Primary School there are a range of policies which set out guidelines and procedures for ensuring equality. These must take into account the rights of all individuals and groups within the school. Policies must also pay regard to the values and practice which are apart of all aspects of school life. It is important for myself to understand relevant legislation and it’s purpose, as this will help me in my role as a teaching assistant and make me aware of my responsibilities.

Through research and own experiences I have come to learn about the current legislation and code’s of practice to the promotion of equality and valuing diversity. I have looked at the rights and the importance of valuing and promoting equality and diversity in work with children and young people and how it is affected by inclusion and inclusive practices and the barriers children face. 1.1 Identify current legislation and codes of practice relevant to the promotion of equality and valuing diversity. Each school must produce a range of policies which formally sets out the guidelines and procedures for ensuring equality.
UNIT 3 – EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION IN WORK WITH CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE Learning outcome 1: Understand the importance of promoting equality and diversity in work with children and young people 1.1Identify the current legislation and codes of practice relevant to the promotion of equality and valuing diversity Achieved in Unit 10 1.2 Describe the importance of promoting the rights of all children and young people to participation and equality of access It is very important to promote the rights of all children and young people to participation and equality of access. In line with legislation from the Equality Act (2006), Disability Equality Duty (2005) and Race Relations Act (2000), my school has developed a policy “Equality Plan” to which all member of staff must be aware of, stating that we must treat all children and young people fairly, equally and with respect. we ensure that all children have access to a wide and enriched curriculum regardless of their background, race, culture, gender or disability. This will enable the children to achieve to their personal best and to feel valued as individuals. It will also encourage to build positive relationships within and outside the school.
"Children with challenging behavior and children with disabilities may have strengths in more neglected intelligences—music, art, physical movement, computers, for example. This approach allows them to develop and showcase their unique abilities" (Rasminsky, 2012, p 168). Children emotionally respond the environment they are in. Everybody desires respect, praises, and strong relationships-children are no different. Children must have a role model, most of the time is the teacher or family, but if they are not able to supply the demands than the child may look up to a trouble maker.
Most people feel the need to express or needs and feelings. We also need to be there to help young children do the same, we can do this by listening and taking interest in their thoughts and emotions. It is essential for children to do this because without making their needs and feelings known to others they can become very frustrated and isolated which can lead to social difficulties later in life. Communication is also for sharing ideas and thoughts. This is important in children to build their creativity and language skills by learning how to get their ideas across to others.
E4 – Describe how the policies and procedures promote fair, just and inclusive strategies When working with children it’s important to be fair and inclusive, you must treat all children equal but still take in to account their individual needs. There are many policies and procedures that ensure children are treated fairly. An example of a policy that helps promote fair practice is the admission’s policy. An admission policy enables an equal chance for all children to attend a setting. Lily’s Day Nursery is an example of a setting that promotes fair admission.
They ensure that all the children in the school understand clearly how they are expected to behave in a kind and considerate manner and also encourage them to learn in a positive environment. The policies include guidance in two areas Promoting appropriate behaviour in the children and discouraging
