Box 8058 Madison, Wi 53708 Dear Mrs. Riechmann: I am writing to you about an article that was published in your paper on Thursday September 20, 2007. The article I am writing to you about was entitled “Bush wants wiretap law made permanent.” I must strongly disagree with President Bush’s proposal because; I believe that it violates people’s rights even if they are not Americans. The fact is the phones that are being tapped are the American people, which violates our amendment rights. If we are trying to build a diplomatic government over there then how can we try
The same court ruled against other unions including the Wisconsin Education Association Council, in another case that raised against similar objections. (Harley 2014) The controversial law, called Net10, triggered an unsuccessful effort to recall the states Republican Governor, Scott Walker. The legislation prevents public sector workers, known as “common workers” from collective bargaining on troubles other than base wages, imposes hard hand recertification needs and bars employers from automatically deducting union dues from paychecks. The unions raised quite a few constitutional objections, which include that the law violates their correct to petition the government and their correct to free association beneath the 1st Amendment. The court mentioned that there is no legal precedent saying the ideal to petition gives unions a constitutional proper to collective bargaining.
Milk, Gus Van Sant 1a) The film Milk portrays an important political history in America against the homosexuals in the 1970’s, seeing this film and the struggles that homosexuals had to fight for their human rights and political equality makes myself, who’s not sensitive about the issue, change my political sensibilities. 2a) -1 The ignorance about homosexuality has become more exposed as they described that being gay could get them fired, beaten up, or even killed. -2 To plan on having to root out every homosexual, simply describes a person who is insecure and cannot accept homosexuality. -3 A debate regarding the Proposition 6 between Supervisor Harvey Milk and Senator John Briggs indicates that Proposition 6 is more on hating the gays, rather than the concern for the children they are “trying” to protect. 3a) -1 When the homosexuals along with the heterosexuals were rioting for their social and political view.
Joseph Campbell Civil disobedience Civil disobedience is the act of violating the law in order to make others aware of personal disagreement. There has been much civil disobedience throughout the history of the world and more importantly, the United States, which have changed laws to better the lives of society. Such iconic civil disobedience that we have witnessed throughout our own history in the United States are things like the Boston Tea Party, and the actions of both Rosa Parks and Susan B. Anthony. Historically, has civil disobedience been successful at changing the laws for the betterment of society as a whole? I believe that it has in more ways than one.
Net neutrality is unfettered access to the Internet. Even though the concept of unrestricted access to Internet content sounds appealing, it has been a heated issue that has broadband providers, politicians, and regulatory agencies involved because of fear that the consumers will have to pay for access and speedy delivery of content. The first section of this paper begins with the history of the legal aspects of this issue. Net neutrality began garnering attention in December 2005 and in 2006 legislation was drafted and presented to both the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Both houses did not approve the legislation brought to them.
The Last Abortion Clinic Americans are still struggling with this intense issue regarding abortion. In The Last Abortion Clinic, FRONTLINE explores the efforts by pro-life advocates to help pass state legislation restricting access to abortion. The video examines the successes of the pro-life movement and touches upon the age-old balance between state and federal authority over Americans' lives. Some major issues that fall within the federal protection vs. those granted to the states by the 10th Amendment, also called the reserved powers amendment because it aims to reserve powers to the states (page 60). The pro-life movement has dramatically changed the landscape of abortion politics.
The answer is, yes. Political polling, like abortion and gun control, is a hot-button issue in the United States. Many people believe that political polls incorrectly portray the public’s opinion on a certain topic, which may also have a detrimental effect on a candidate running for office. As Statesman Benjamin Disraeli famously said, “if you torture data long enough, they’ll admit to anything” (Source B). Therefore, political polls, without a doubt, do not accurately represent the correct views of a population.
The general feelings I have do not share his moral or ethical opinions as he states them in his opinion pieces or past essays written. Paul Ryan maintains the congressional seat since 1998 with his strict conservative view and continues to have a large following who shares those views and opinions. Conclusion In 1998, Paul Ryan, and Lydia Spottswood competed for the congressional seat of Wisconsin. Both candidates supported a partial birth abortion with Spottswood’s belief in the exception of which a woman’s life or health could be in danger. Ryan believed that states should have the right to prosecute women who have abortions and how to enforce the penalties.
Gun Control and Advertisements Gun control is and always will be a very important and touchy subject in this country. Historically the conservative politicians have supported the 2nd amendment and the more liberal politicians have supported gun control. There has to be some control over what kinds of weapons a person can own, the dispute is over how strict or how relaxed those stipulations should be. In this article in CNN.com about New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, it explains what he and a few other mayors in the U.S. are trying to do to make those gun laws stricter. But right in the middle of the article is an ad for www.CloseCombatTraining.com, which is a website for people to learn how to do a certain martial arts technique.
But what are their true motives? We are the citizens of this democratic nation, it is our duty to question the actions of our government, especially when those actions weaken our trust, defy the constitution, and fail to safeguard our information. Privacy is something that Americans safeguard. This is put to numbers in a survey taken by the Pew Research Center, which found that 93% of American adults believed that it was very important who received their information. Though we may safeguard our privacy, we may no
