These conflicting views on technological advances in these novels can be related to the modern age that we live in today. Yes, there are numerous benefits to technology, but we humans cannot allow ourselves to become dependent on technology. The benefits are related to The Killer Angels: technological advances have helped make our lives much easier. For example, with the internet, we no longer have to painstakingly research information from books. The dangerous prospect of humans becoming too dependent on technology is seen in Jurassic Park.
The world should not be created to have technology run it solely; humans should be more involved with processes that are in their control. A complete dependency on technology can lead future generations into the direction of lacking life skills. An excellent movie, Surrogates (2009), supports how an extreme dependency on technology can affect social interactions and health decline for lack of physical movement because there is technology that will do everything for you. The polypotency of technology, if used properly, can truly help the world evolve for the better. The lack of extreme dependency can open the door for communities to work together to resolve
While patents don't seem to be encouraging the development of discrete new ideas that no one else has, that doesn't mean they aren't motivating innovation at all. The incentives provided by a patent, in other words, must be filtered through the realities of a patent race. In some (though by no means all, or even a majority) the inventors are acutely aware of the possibility of patent rights and of the risk that others might obtain the core patents. As John Duffy has observed, the benefit of a race is that people run faster than they otherwise would. As a result, a patent race should both cause inventions to be made sooner than they otherwise would be and, because patent terms are measured from the filing date, cause the resulting patents to expire earlier than they otherwise would.
“Into the Electronic Millenium” Sven Birkerts Most individuals, if not the world, may consider technological innovations and advances to be a beneficial aspect in our contemporary society. However, according to Sven Birkerts in his article, “Into the Electronic Millennium,” the assimilation of technology into our society has only affected us negatively. On one hand, the usage of these modern gadgets has caused detrimental effects to our daily language, altering the way we speak and communicate for the worse. On the other hand, such electric components have also provoked a loss of value for privacy as well. In accord with Birkerts ideals, I too, agree in the detrimental effects evoked from such technological advances.
Why is technology so harmful to us? Isn’t it supposed to help us advance our world? Yes, it does help makes the world more advanced and faster, but it also makes people behave morally wrong and become more dependent of technology. The advancement of technology can’t be stopped but doesn’t mean we can’t restrain ourselves from being completely dependent and obeying it. The advancement of technology corrupts young mindset and education.
It has helped us to bring the world to where it is in the present. While it was not all beneficial, it also increased population and made America and Britain more successful in making goods faster and having more than what was needed which is a great thing to have other than the opposite. The Industrial Revolution has benefitted us in many
We may not know the same subjects as previous generations, but we are adapting to the ever changing world around us. Calling us the “Dumbest Generation” is a bit harsh considering that our generation and previous generations were taught in different societies. Our generation is the generation of technology, while the generations before us weren’t exposed to the technologies of today. Of course, no generation is going to admit to being less educated than another generation. Each generation would consider themselves the smartest, but to others that might seem farfetched.

Andres Delgado Period 3 Mrs. Stine AP Literature Many people create intellectual ideas by the advancement of technology. In Brave New World by Aldous Huxley demonstrates how a technological world works and how it can make the society more efficient. Technology is beneficial to the “New World” society because it makes society stable through Bokanosky’s Process and the Caste System. When people have intellectual ideas, then their life will be much simpler and innovative. The Brave New World society has become a marvelous place to be by the advancement of technology.
It is surprising that the future is depicted this way by Huxley because it seems like more of a degeneration of mankind rather than an advancement. The drug soma is used excessively to take away any amount of discomfort or anger experienced by anyone in the New World. They use soma as a way to prevent the people from becoming curious and acting according to human nature. Serious emotion like pain is suppressed to avert them from following their natural inclinations to seek refuge in others. Personal relations and bonding have been replaced by this artificial drug.
