Review of Yes Man Yes man was the funniest comedy I have seen in a very long time. Apart from the fact it was hilarious, I got a ‘spiritual’ gain from it too. Yes, such as the title, it is a story about saying yes to life. Carl is a bank employee who has basically given up on life after his divorce. He cannot connect to anyone. He constantly avoids friends and he lives his life in the shadows accepting his fate. “No” becomes his favorite word: He screens his calls, dodges his friends, and has pretty much dropped out of life. Then, one day, after missing his best friends engagement party and waking up from an awful dream, Carl realizes that he has to turn his life around. When an old buddy shows up and convinces him to go to a “Say Yes” seminar, he decides to take a chance. The “Yes is the new No” convention scene, where Carl is emotionally taken in and challenged to make a covenant of “Yes” with himself to start saying yes to everything in his life. While he continues to say yes, his world begins to change. Yes, it is easy to imagine how hilarious the movie unfolds when Carl starts to say yes to everything wholeheartedly. And yes, it does create some unexpected problems for him. For instance, just imagine it, what if a dirty, stinky bum asked you for a ride into a dark and secluded park area? Since Carl made a covenant with himself, he forces himself to drive the transient. Even worse, The bum asks Carl for his cell phone and talks so long on it and even asks for some money. When Carl gives him a few dollars, the bum replies, ”How about all of it?” Yes, things get rosier for Carl and his world open up with new opportunities at happiness. He is the only credit officer in town that always says yes to a loan application. He is being summoned to meet with an executive of the bank.
